Travel: Taiwan - Taipei
-
Hmm I like F&E so I dont have to wake up early and sleep very late and rush for all the tour. If you are only staying in Taipei, not necessary to join tour as Taipei is very easy accessible. Their MRT is like SG very easy and well connected. If you want to go somewhere near Taipei just engage a taxi driver for a day trip they will bring you around.
Go Trip advisory and gather all the information there. Alot of information there for you. -
We have booked our hols to Taiwan. We like F&E and actually took the family of 9 on a F&E trip to HK last year. But.... as 4 of them are senior citizens, F&E isn't such a good idea as we are like torturing them with all the walking
Anyway.... we booked a package tour with Chan Brothers to do 8D 7N taiwan. I guess it's probably a touch and go deal, waking up early in morning, changing from hotel to hotel. But the good part is the transport that works well for the senior citizens and little kiddos. They can rest on the bus. Hubby also thought it's less stressful for us the \"organiser\" to coordinate the activities for entire family if it is a package tour. On the other hand... other than the higher price of package, I think the tips is expensive too especially for us a big family :moneyflies:
We were contemplating of redeeming free flights to Taiwan, based in taipei and do a local tour from there. We do have our concerns as the standard of the local tour is usually different from the standard of the tour from Singapore. We did similar stuff in Shanghai on F&E basis and on local tour and felt the difference. -
Was doing F&E Taipei during June hols. Stayed near MRT station as a base and went everywhere in MRT or taxi…shopping Ximenting (teen paradise), Dan Shuei Old Street (lots of souvenirs and snacks), Fisherman Wharf. …Must go for adults is the National Museum…one of the best in Asia. Kids will find the museum boring. Taxi is cheap and is everywhere (unlike in Spore when you have to wait until neck long long). Chartered a limousine (cost less than SGD150) for half day which took us to Jiefan (mountain village), then a place where there’s unique rock formation and also a place where there is the heaviest gold bar exhibited. The journey is about 1 hour from Taipei. If you can lift the gold bar, it is yours! Sorry, I can’t remember the names of places…My chinese sucks…
My experience is marred by the exceptionally hot weather so not so enjoyable. Shopping not great but food is! If you have time, charter a taxi to YangMing Hotspring mountain area and stay over night there at Tien Lai Hotspring Resort (recommended)…it could be about 2 hours ride (not sure) from Taipei. -
Taipei is the nice place to travel and there are so many attractive places to see in Taipei. The accommodations and travel services are also very good and cheap. I had travel Taipei last year that time I have enjoyed a lot and make a fun. I like that place.

Could you advise which hotel did you stay and how much per night?
What travel services are you using and where did you go?
I am planning to go but not sure where to go. -
Hi parent,
I am thinking to bring my boy aged 3 to Taiwan. What your opinion on this LeoFoo 六福村 (Safari resort and Amusement park). When i visited their webpage, they got few parks within the villlage, look like HK Disneyland, how comparable of this 六福村 with HK Disneyland. -
SunnyLing, pm you

F&E may or may not be cheaper, depending on your flight and hotel fares. But at least we get to control the places we want to visit. No waking up at 6am, 7am breakfast and 8am departure. F&E gives us the flexibility to move around at our own pace. -
There's a topic here

Anyone been to Yilan? What are the attractions there? I understand there are quite a few padi fields. Are there any that we can do hands-on? I’m thinking if I want to stay over 1 night in Yilan.

pqy:
LeoFoo 六福村 hotel is quite unique. It is in a U-shape format with a mini-zoo within the compound. Most of the rooms are loft-units with full lenght windows, that allow guests to view the animals in the comfort of their room. Outside, a bit smelly, afterall it is a zoo.Hi parent,

It has a bus drive through safari park that is filled with many (not only in type but also in numbers) animals. for example, they have some 40 or more tigers and 100s of baboons (?). There is also a train ride that bring us through another safari park filled with grass-grazing animals, like buffalos, zebras, etc
rides are quite typical theme park rides. The 1 ride worth mentioning is the water-log ride, the one that we sit in a log, go round and round and partly in darkness, then plunge down, big splash, and everybody wet. Their version has 2 plunges and the second plunge is quite high & very steep. Kiddie rides are boring and limited.
food are lousy.
