Thanks for telling me šŸ™‚ I didn't think of the that! But anyway ours will be a weekend swimming class.

      jedamum:
      just a note.
not sure if old wives tales or not, swimming in the morning is not so good for children.
the huge pool of water is left overnight in the cooling night. the next day, it will still remain cool or even cold as the morning sun is not as hot as the afternoon son. to swim in such state may not be advisable for young children.
      jmho.
maybe you can consider squeezing enrichment to saturdays.

        Hi glendt,

Thanks for your advice too. šŸ™‚ May I know how old if you girl? I think you are right, maybe I can try to see if she can cope with school work first before i decide to cut any classes.

        glendt:
That's what I heard about swimming in the pool. My girl used to take swimming lessons in the morning and would fall sick. For me, enrichment such as swimming and ballet are done on weekdays. I try to put them on the non-busy weekdays. Essential enrichment like academic lessons are on weekends. They a pretty packed schedule but because they like their classes, it is not a problem getting them to go. If they can cope with school work, then it is not a problem.

Are there any parents who have not sent their K1 kids to academic type of enrichment class yet? Currently, my DS has swimming and piano on weekends. With only these 2 classes, DH and I are already finding it a chore and time consuming.

My K2 kid only attended ICR. Now thinking of whether to sign her up for pri 1 prepatory class.

            you should !

because ICR only cover reading only.
P1 Preparatory course cover two subjects - both English and Maths. An hour each for 1 subject

P1 Prep English cover grammar, vocabulary targeted at P1 standard.

when your child reach K1/ K2, good to send them for P1 Prep course.

            can consider below:-

            a) http://success.edu.sg/main/2011-classes/serangoon-branch/

this centre - a lot of Rosyth school kids attend.

you may also call up AMK branch, inquire if they have.

            b) http://www.mwtuition.com.sg/

this centre - a lot of CHIJ St Nick school kids attend.

              Hi dimsum,

DS3 is doing sports like soccer and swimming and learning drums. Dont intend to go for enrichment classes if he can cope with Primary school work next year. Time is a big constraint and dont want to stress him up with so many classes and extra homework at such an early age. Let him smell some roses (or kick some balls first) before the rat race starts.

some kindergarten even encourage their K1/K2 kids to take up P1 Prep course, under enrichment category.

under enrichment lessons for P1 Prep - the kindergarten set aside one hour for Maths, another hour for English.

                  Hi i3mum,

My girl is 9. She is not that busy in school yet. If she is too free, her mind also not being developed so I rather she be busy. But only if she can cope. So far, she says she can cope. How old is your child?

Sorry, I'm a bit blur.
Why do we need to \"prepare\" our child for P1? šŸ˜“ I always thought that those preschool enrichment classes ie ICR, MPM, Berries, are sufficient because surely we don't expect our children to know all the P1 syllabus on their first day in school? :yikes:

I remembered someone telling me that K2 is already a preparation for P1. 🤷

                        Wow! Thanks!
                        I nearly fainted.... :?

Yeah... I used to think P1 is nothing and that all those parents trying to prepare their kids early for Primary school are just kiasu and want to make their children top the class - until I realize the school itself expects the children to be already steeped in such a culture! So by the time parents come to this realization, they panic and try to start the processes of external enrichment courses, and that gives the children a LOT more stress since they also have to cope with the work in P1.

IMO, parents who prepare their children early are really helping to give their children less stress by the time they go to school. The danger that kids will be bored in class is nothing compared to the self-confidence and self-esteem that the children gets when they have already been exposed to what the teachers are teaching.

I know I am digging up old posts. I can't help but echo this: I nearly fainted... šŸ˜“[/quote]Ok I found my answer here. So... I've one more mission as a mother, to look for good classes to prepare my children for P1!
