kyy: The 2-CCA policy has been the norm for years except for some students with exceptionally heavy single CCAs (e.g. national athletes or top school athletes). At Year 4, the O-level cohort is about 40% of the total, but varies according to demand. As MGS IP comes online, one would expect the O-level cohort at ACS(I) to increase to make way for the MGS girls, unless the overstrained IBDP is expanded at Year 5.

So for those who DSA via the HAST test would start off in IP classes, leading to IB, ya?

Nebbermind, jtoh: Years 1-4 have both Integrated Programme and Express classes. Based on performance, students may be restreamed at any time. Your DS may enter the IP and be restreamed to Express to do O-levels, or enter the Express and end up in the IP. At the end of Year 4, both may be eligible to enter the Year 5-6 IB Diploma programme. The difference is that non-IP students must do well in O-levels and apply through JAE, while the IP students need only meet certain standards in their IP studies to automatically progress.

Hi Autolycus, I'm aware of this. My question is: Are all students who are granted DSA COs given a place in the Year 1 IP class? Or does the DSA CO merely mean admission to ACSI, not necessarily IP classes in Year 1.

Nebbermind, jtoh: DSA means admission to a school but not necessarily to a specific programme within a school. Generally (historically, almost always) however, DSA/HAST success means the child will be offered a place in the IP. DSA alone does not guarantee this, although with the internal weighting at ACS(I) by which selection occurs, it is very likely.

Clayman: I think he meant that in general, GEP students do well enough for entry without DSA. However, those with unusual contributions in various areas will still be considered. It wasn't meant to be an anti-GEP statement!


annamylee: This is generally true because if you apply for ACS(I) as first choice and ACS(Barker) as second choice, but fail to get ACS(I), you will be treated as a first-choice applicant for ACS(Barker). However, a number of very good students pick ACS(Barker) as first choice. Note that it's called ACS(Barker) because it's located at 60 Barker Road.

Heard from a friend that ACS(BR) has been improving on their 'O' results in recent yrs and ACS boys who r not quite IP/IB material have decided to enrol there rather than ACSI...maybe nearer to their homes and definitely CHEAPER!!

Actually, ACS (Barker) O-level results can be better than ACS(I) O-level results in some dimensions...

My son is from ACS(P) GEP and applied for DSA at ACSI.

From my understanding, only 10 COs were given out to the ACS GEP boys last year as the previous principal may have been frustrated by the low take-up rate in 2009 when most of the GEP boys were offered. With a new head at the helm, any idea if there is a change in thinking this year. Getting quite nervous already as there has not been any news at all. Last year, a letter was sent out to the GEP boys asking if they would accept a place in ACSI if offered, but so far there is no letter in sight this year.

Hopefully, you are able to provide some \"comforting and wise words\" for the anxious ACS GEP parents.
