Nebbermind, jtoh: DSA means admission to a school but not necessarily to a specific programme within a school. Generally (historically, almost always) however, DSA/HAST success means the child will be offered a place in the IP. DSA alone does not guarantee this, although with the internal weighting at ACS(I) by which selection occurs, it is very likely.
Thanks autolycus. -

Heard from a friend that ACS(BR) has been improving on their 'O' results in recent yrs and ACS boys who r not quite IP/IB material have decided to enrol there rather than ACSI...maybe nearer to their homes and definitely CHEAPER!!Clayman: I think he meant that in general, GEP students do well enough for entry without DSA. However, those with unusual contributions in various areas will still be considered. It wasn't meant to be an anti-GEP statement!

annamylee: This is generally true because if you apply for ACS(I) as first choice and ACS(Barker) as second choice, but fail to get ACS(I), you will be treated as a first-choice applicant for ACS(Barker). However, a number of very good students pick ACS(Barker) as first choice. Note that it's called ACS(Barker) because it's located at 60 Barker Road.

Actually, ACS (Barker) O-level results can be better than ACS(I) O-level results in some dimensions...

Hi Clayman,Hi Autolycus,
My son is from ACS(P) GEP and applied for DSA at ACSI.
From my understanding, only 10 COs were given out to the ACS GEP boys last year as the previous principal may have been frustrated by the low take-up rate in 2009 when most of the GEP boys were offered. With a new head at the helm, any idea if there is a change in thinking this year. Getting quite nervous already as there has not been any news at all. Last year, a letter was sent out to the GEP boys asking if they would accept a place in ACSI if offered, but so far there is no letter in sight this year.
Hopefully, you are able to provide some \"comforting and wise words\" for the anxious ACS GEP parents.
Thanks.
I have sent you a pm. -

Called ACSI and was told that they will start calling the successful candidates \"these few days\". My gut feel is chances are, the successful ACSP GEP will likely hear from them first. So just wondering if Clayman has received any news yet. (My ds is from mainstream and I personally am not optimistic that his chances will be higher than the GEPper)

I think all who applied stands an equal chance, given that the boys have to take the HAST test. My gut feel is that whether you get a CO is dependent on your HAST test results. So don't lose heart yet...you'll never know. As far as I know, some ACS GEP boys will be taking up the COs from RI and NUSH, so there are still equal chances. I think all parents whose DSs and DDs are going through DSA now, just can't wait for this whole process to be over so that they can concentrate on the task ahead...PSLE!!

There will be quite a no. who will choose RI, esp among those who were transferred to ACS coz of GEP. Most GEP will still end up in ACSI. HCI is not a popular for obvious reasons!!
NUSH also not popular among ACS boys. -
Nebbermind:
That's true for those who transferred over because the 3 years of GEP in ACSP is just a transit point in their educational journey, whereas those who were in P1 from the start have family members who are old boys of the school. I know of one GEP boy who has a CO from NUSH....chop and confirmed he is going there. There will be quite a no. who will choose RI, esp among those who were transferred to ACS coz of GEP.
