Tinkerbelle, yes so different from our time, when I just study on my own and flip past year papers. Where got shah things as tuition or enrichment? Really pity the kids these days :gloomy: and though my girl us only going to p1, I actually feel like I'm the one that is attending primary school all over again, so I am sure by the time it gets to her pale, I will probably be like you, studying alongside her :faint:
Keke...nowadays, parents need to be proactive to keep up with all the changes in the syllabus. Enjoy the process. I'm sure your DD will enjoy studying with Mummy. :hugs:Tinkerbelle:
Tinkerbelle, the idea that there isn't enough time to learn all the P6 stuff is really scary! Do you have to teach your dd alot on your own?
Hi michyms,
I think this is a common phenomenon in all schs....having only a few months to teach P6 materials. The kids have to learn and absorb pretty quickly. That's why many parents outsource and send their kids for enrichment/tuition lessons during the Dec holidays to give their kids a head start. Very different from our days hor...
I do teach my DD but don't have to sit beside her. She'll usually ask for help when she needs it. Actually, to be honest, the maths is getting tough and I'm also learning about her work... Like I'm also sitting for PSLE....keke -

Do we buy text books and Sch uniform on Orientation? Are we allowed to brind dd2 with us? She is 4 and will sure want to follow us..hate to leave her home with maid.
Hi jnemummy,
Last year, no textbooks or uniforms were sold during Orientation Day but the year before that, uniforms were sold during Orientation Day and the sch bus drivers were there as well for parents to make enquiries. Thus it's hard to say if uniforms will be sold this year during orientation.
Regardless, you can buy uniform from the uniform shop in Toa Payoh, Lorong 1 in Nov/Dec. The sch will send out forms for uniforms & name tags. It's advisable not to buy uniforms too late in Dec as the shop will have limited stock. Furthermore, it takes 10-14 days for the name tags to be ready during peak season.
AS for textbooks, there are designated dates for different levels to go back to sch to buy textbooks in Dec. You can also pre-order online and arrange for pick-up from sch bookshop or for delivery to your home (charges apply).
Yes, it's ok for you to bring DD2 along for orientation. I'm sure she'll enjoy the performances. :rahrah: -

Tinkerbelle, thanks for sharing, the programme looks good and the quizzes seem rather interesting!michyms:
Tinkerbelle, what exactly is the stellar programme? I keep hearing it being mentioned...
Hi michyms,
STELLAR is a language teaching programme that helps P1 & P2 students acquire English language skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Teaching is done through the use of the 'Shared Book Approach' whereby \"big books\" are shown and read to the class and the various themes portrayed in these books are explored. Check out this link to get more info about stellar:

You might want to let your DD try out some of the fun quizes under \"Resources\" for Students. The kids usually enjoy learning as it's fun. Enjoy

Is there any specific programmes for the teaching of chinese as well?
Hi michyms,
There are no programmes like STELLAR for teaching Chinese. All primary schs use the same chinese text book, depending on whether the sch teaches standard chinese or higher MT. MCS only has standard chinese for P1-P4.
Nowadays, with the change in MT syllabus, more emphasis is placed on listening, reading and oral skills in lower primary. In P1, only HYPY will be taught in the first 3 months. Basic characters will only be introduced from term 2 onwards.
