Thanks. Actually we called up Tao Nan school and we were advised to join the hokkien huay kuan. But one of the conditions is we need 2 sponsors. We do not know anyone here as I am a new citizen (my hubby is a PR). The reason we choose Tao Nan is my hubby who is an american wants our boys to learn good chinese and learn chinese culture
xuen,
Why limit yourself to Tao Nan? There are other schools with this chinese environment that you would like to immerse your DS in and are easier to get in than TN. -

Hi:
I would like to join the hokkien huay kuan so that we can be at phase 2b to register my child to one of the schools. However i need 2 sponsors to join the huay kuan. Can any one who is the member be my sponsor? Thank you.
Just curious, you are New citizen and hubby is American. Can SHHK accept? -
Hi I would like to join SHHK for my boy who born in yr08 but I need 2 existing members to support. Any kind soul who can help me please? Please pm me. I know the chances of getting the recommendation letter may be low but I would like to give it a try as I hv no chance under phase2C getting in NCP. I’m staying 1-2km fr NCP. Thank you.

I am not sure whether it is acceptable. My husband who is american called the school and was advised that I to join the huay kuan.

Thot that the SHHK is only for Hokkien, no?
Scary is right, there are other good schools that cultivate chinese culture. -
how do they verify whether one is hokkien or not? :?

hi xuen,
Got this from the shhk website. This are the criteria for membership:
Applicant must meet all the following requirements. He/She must:
a: be a Singapore citizen;
b: belong to the Hokkien dialect group (please attach documentary proof);
be at least 21 years old;
d: be of sound mind;
e: not be an un-discharged bankrupt; and
f: not have been convicted under the criminal law of any country.
Anyway, if you are eyeing TNS, and registering in the next couple of years, I think joining SHHK is too late; plus there is no guarantee of entry even if you live next door (may be balloted out). I would suggest you formulate a plan B. -
