Sent my DD to cc abacus last year but stop after 2 terms.
Too much homework and once we heard her talk in her dream the abacus formula so we decided to stop before we kill her interest in math :xedfingers:

yes. string as in 3+6+2 and instead of using the steps/formula, ds1 will go 3+6+2=3+6+1+1=11. and then never use the formula or abacus.
his mental calculation til now is not so good. so i always get him to work it out on paper when he check his work.

hmmm..... DD1 is doing ok.. but should probably check how she is deriving the answer...
