Dear KCPPS parents,
just wondering if any of you are PV ? if so, pls advice what are the tasks that are assigned to PV of current students ? what’s the commitment level, and frequency of meetings, etc ? do they assign tasks according to whether you are PV of student-to-be, or PV of current student, etc, etc.
will also like more info on the school culture, such as whether the Principal and the teachers very open to communication with parents, etc, etc.
as a whole, will you rate the school as more focused on academics, or on moral building of the students ?
Many thanks. -

At one time, I was looking around for one too. The closest would be the CDC 3-in-1 student care which is in blk 186 and the YMCA in the next blk to the 3-in-1 BASC. Both are within walking distance to the school, thus you could see quite a number of KC students there. However, this centres do not provide tuition, just supervising on the child's school work and giving them assessments books to do. There are also some centres in Bishan North area. However, I don't like those in Bishan North area as the centres here are all housed in \"bomb shelthers\" in basements of void decks, giving that claustrophobic feel and no natural light.
Sorry, I can't give an assessment of the qualities of the abovementioned centres as I did not put my child in any as finally, I decided to just leave her in my in-laws care. -
thks Tulip!
Ya, as you said, the environment/atmosphere of such centres always make me feel uncomfortable n hemmed in also. Besides, I'm rather concern abt the teacher(s) at these centres, r they really able to guide n coach the kids wif school work? not to say tuition, but at least spare me wif my kid's daily school/home work, as after work-and-school, the night is really short and precious for us, sigh! I always hv to make sure he turns in early so to hv enough rest/sleep, as our days start very early.
Guess...we'd just have to re-adjust, to a new routine once he's in P1  -
My dh has just been "enrolled" as a PV. He is doing traffic warden duties once a week for the 1st 20 hours. The sch will assign him new duties for the 2nd 20 hrs.
He was told by the principal that the sch is moving to AMK. I’m not sure exactly where and when. I believe it will be along St 22.
Btw, I heard that there are many students transferring out of the sch as the sch focuses on the brighter students and the not so good students are left with relief teachers etc. Is that true? -

I was PV 2 years ago. Then, there were no takers for traffic warden duties and PV work were adhoc. PV work were not assigned but they will send out emails on whenever services are required, ad hoc basis. There is a Children's Day event coming up on 30 Sep, did your dh volunteer for that? He will probably need to apply for leave but will be able to clock in a couple of hours at one go. My hubby and myself did that the previous year and we clock in 16 hours at one go.My dh has just been \"enrolled\" as a PV. He is doing traffic warden duties once a week for the 1st 20 hours. I have only recently heard from another parent about the move; before that, no one has mentioned about it, since your husband's heard it from the Principal the rumour should now be more or less confirmed. Would it be a temporary move while the school upgrade its facilities to cater to single session?
Regards to your last point, I have not heard about it either, perhaps my network not wide enough. But I'll definitely try to find out. Actually, it is the practice of most schools now to stream the students to the 2 best classes and to cater more to these higher achieving students.
Last time, I chat with a PV from the PV support group, whose been there for a couple of years, she told me the sch not only focus on the 2 top classes but also the weakest class. I don't know, the current principal just came on board for about 2 years, perhaps the school is now heading a different direction with a different focus.
Cheers... -
Hi Tulip
Yes my hubby is helping out on 30/9 but only for half a day. Actually I also signed up as PV but they only called him for interview and assignment of duties. There was no choice offered to him. He doesn’t mind except for fact that it’s a struggle to get up that early.
About the school’s focus, we have 2 friends, whose children are in the sch. One friend is transferring her son out as she’s sick of the frequent changes in the teachers. Our other friend is also unhappy with the sch as their son is not a high flyer. She feels like the sch is only concerned about academic excellence and doesn’t bother about the whole person. But due to the convenient location, her son is staying put. However 3 of his classmates are transferring to another sch and their parents give the reason about the changes in teachers. Both friends don’t know each other so in a way, it’s 2 independent testimonies about the sch. It’s sad to me cos it’s a Christian sch and the impression it gives to parents is not nice although I must add that I’m not judging cos my kids are not in the system yet and I do not know the demands on schs nowadays.
