All About Preparing For Primary One

CayennePepper, thanks for the clarification. My friends were indeed from the 80s. They didn't say that majority of students from the primary school didn't make it back to St Nicks or Cat High, but said majority of students in the secondary school were from neighbourhood schools. So I guess the reason is as you highlighted. But they did mention that some of the primary students didn't meet the COP to make it back to the secondary despite the affiliation, so I am guessing the COP is actually pretty high I suppose and not that far away from the COP for non-affiliated students (am I correct?) :scratchhead: So regardless, still have to study hard even if there is a safety net I myself was from a primary school which had an affiliated secondary school, and the COP was quite low. And they took back majority of the students. So their standards were not quite as high I reckon.

From my experience with my older 2, it was hard enough going to P1 so I did not make another transition at home by making them sleep in separate rooms. Now my eldest is in P3, I am planning to make her sleep in her own room by end of this year. I find that sleeping together also helped bond my 2 older ones.

Wow that is a detailed list :rahrah: Thank you. My youngest is going to P1 next year as well. If you are looking for pre pri for english, I suggest TAS as I put my girl in when they started their pre pri class and I find that she can now write in complete sentences for comprehension and she is starting to write a few lines for composition which will give her very comfortable breathing space when she starts in P1.

I wanted DD1 to have her own room so she can have a quiet place to do her school work and also so she can have her own "identity". I find that since they are close in age (11 mths apart), they do things together all the time and so thought older girl cna have her own privacy and independence away from DD2.

I guess maybe now is not the time to do it as it’s a big change going to P1. Will monitor and see how she feels before I do anything.

Having their own identity is great maybe can wait till she settles in P1. Some children
settle very quickly. My niece was the confident type, she had no problems and even asked her mother when she could have her own room when she was in K2. So a lot depends on the child.

jeanieg... different strokes for different folks.. and i read that you have valid reasons for wanting some change.. what you can do immediately is bring the upper bunk bed down so the beds are side by side first.. this will help to solve the waking up time and good if the routine can start now.. way before P1 routine kicks in. I have frenz who have similar thoughts as you and their children love the individual space, the feel and the whole look of everything. As long as it works for you, i say.. just go with it. You know your children better. Agree with glendt that it also depends on the child himself/herself.

Can anyone enlighten me on what goes on on Orientation Day? Heard it can get messy with uniforms to buy, books to get, school buses to arrange, etc! Is it better for both parents to be there? Even though it is in November, am already getting excited/worried!

you should post this question in the school thread your child is registered in. I think each school is different. last year, DS' orientation day only involved at tops registering for basc, school bus service and measurement of uniform. We had to collect uniform and school books at a later date.
