Hi mommyto3js, I also have 3 kids, 2 girls and a boy (6, 4 and 2 years old respectively). Now that your dd is going to MCS, which school are you planning for your 2 ds?

          Hi,

Can anyone share if there are lockers or cupboards in class available for the P1 children to leave behind their files or textbooks in school like some of the dingle session schools?

          Thanks

I think MCS should let parent decide whether they want their child to take std or higher chinese so not to deprive them a chance to develop their best potential in chinese. Personally, I like my dd to take higher chinese as I feel it important that she master both language well. If she only take it at P5 โ€ฆshe will miss out a lot as compared students who already take higher chinese from P1.

Does MCS conduct moral education on chinese values - respect elder, be filial to parents, etc ? I donโ€™t want dd to be too โ€˜ang moโ€™ and lose the chinese values.

:hi5: michyms. Actually, sometimes when DD1 asks me how to read/write certain chinese characters......:scratchhead: I must check the dictionary  ....

Tinkerbelle, yeah, me too. I usually delegate the task of answering dd's chinese related questions to my hb, since he took Higher chinese during his secondary school days. My hb says the advantage of having taken higher chinese is that at least he can read chinese newspaper, whereas I can't

May I check with you for students who take HMT for PSLE, how does this get computed into the scores for entering a SAP school? Can students choose to attend HMT classes but not take the exam in P6?

                  Hi michyms,
All students who take up HMTL will have to sit for 2 exams.....1 for normal chinese and 1 for HMTL.

Students who sit for PSLE - HMTL will not have a score for that subject..... they'll get a grade instead. A 'Pass' will equate to 1 mark, a 'Merit' 2 marks and a 'Distinction' 3 marks. Only if your child opts for a SAP sch like St. Nic, NYGH, will the marks for the respective grade attained be added to the child's T-score.

For example, if your DD scores 260 and attains a 'Merit' for HMTL, 2 additional marks will be added to her 260 if she applies for a SAP sch, making her score 262. However, on her PSLE cert, only 260 and 'Merit' for HMTL will be reflected. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes phoenix, the classrooms have lockers for the gals to put their belongings. That way, their bags won't be too heavy. ๐Ÿ˜„

                      Hi jnemummy,
Some schs do start their students on HMTL from P1, but unfortunately, MCS is not one of them. I agree with you that it would be nice to have the option to choose to expose the gals to HMTL from young.... that way, they won't resist the language as much when they get to upper primary.

In MCS, the P1 gals are streamed (for MT only) after 1 term. Those who excel in MT will be allocated to the top chinese class in Term 2 where they will be further stretched & challenged. There are 3 sections for each chapter in the Chinese textbook. Gals taking standard chinese will only touch on the first 2 sections but gals in the top chinese class will get to do the third section as well (even though the 3rd section is not examinable). In this way, gals who show appitude for Chinese will have a chance to further develop their potential.

Not to worry, MCS does conduct Civics & Moral Education (CME) in the child's MT language. ๐Ÿ˜‚
