Hi, I need help with these 2 questions:

        1. Ali has some 50 cent coins and Martin has some $1 coins. Ali has 49 more coins than Martin but has $4.50 less than him. How much money do they have alltogether?

        2. Joshua counted the number of digits of all the page numbers in a book. He found that a total of 1359 digits were used. How many pages were there in the book? (ans=489)

        thank you.

            Hi

            1. Give 49 more $1 coins to Martin so that he has same number of coins as Ali. Then, Ali would have $4.50 + $49 = $53.50 less than Martin.

So, number of coins each would have = 53.50/0.50 = 107

            Ali had 107 x $ 0.50 = $53.50
            Martin had (107 - 49) x $1 = $58

            2. List the number and count the digits...

            pg 1-9 = 9 digits
            pg 10-99 = 90 x 2 = 180 digits

            1359 - 9 - 180 = 1170 digits

            1170/3 = 390 numbers

            Last page number = 100 + 390 - 1= 489

            cheers.

Hi MathsGuru, could you help explain the solution for this question:

A group of girls played only 2 types of activities. 1/4 of them played skipping and 2/3 of them played catching. 1/6 of them played both and 90 girls did not play at all. How many girls were there altogether?

                  Hi,

Need help with the following question. Many thanks in advance.

Mark spent 2/3 of his money on 3 cups and 3 plates and 1/4 of the remaining money on 2 napkins. Each cup costs 1/7 as much as each plate. Each napkin costs $7 more than each cup. How much money did Mark spend on each plate?
