I think they want to make it more personal, that's why names are written on the envelope.

I thought such information are widely available. Eg. through phone books, etc...? We received many calls from housing agents and wondering where they got the contacts from. I suppose there are some widely published information eg. the phone books. Unless one choose not to have their details published?

I agree on the part that they are trying to make it personal.

          wow mummyo
          you worked for TJS before?
i heard he is also a very efficient guy
I've only volunteered for his GE and now PE campaigns, not under him in a professional capacity but he has always treated everyone with respect, warmth, sincerity and humility.

            UncleLim:

i must say I am genuinely surprised at the low ranking of TT on this poll.

i believe most of the members here reads news from internet etc rather than depend only on our 154th media

spoke to some aunties i knew about this pE
they said they will vote for TT cause they only know him and the news speaks good about him

            hard true :slapshead:

            Yes UncleLim,

agree with Raysusan. Those who use the internet widely can study each candidate in full, and access to real incidents and actual data, rather than those fed only from normal media, which are 'a bit' bias.

As I said the impression of TT by all the lao uncles and aunties who read newsaper and watch TV are of one that has contributed immensedly to our nation, one that is dignified, one that speaks very well, one who is genuinely coming out to serve the people. Add to that list, all the people in comfort zone who dont bother or do not want to cause any ripple, or kiasu or kiasi - the onus is TT has the highest chance to win by default.

But those who catch up with the updated truths and information online, know about the Education Minister times, the TDB time with the union, the GIC 2008, the Patrick 12 yr deferment, etc etc, and also the current credibility in public speaking.. they have their doubts.

And we now have 4 candidates, we should owe it to ourselves to evaluate the pros and the cons, the moral thing to do, the right thing to do, the right or IDEAL candidate for the job. We just dont want another shoo-in situation like SR Nathan. I mean seriously, attending the annual Star Awards ???? and the program was in mandarin, I did not know SRN was multi-lingual, but in any case, is that even relevant to the presidency ? another indication, but as I said, by internet users on yahoo Poll only. See the number of participants, quite a lot, but cannot compare to the many ignorant and mis-informed.

            http://i54.tinypic.com/dqfxwz.jpg\">

Basically, we just want a fair competition ( so far I only see 1 poster around my area and a lot of it too ), and all to carefully evaluate the 4 candidates. Each vote is precious and important. To again quote http://theonlinecitizen.com/2011/08/neo-swee-lin-its-my-vote-and-its-precious/

\"I will not vote according to who I think stands a chance or not. I will not vote in a politically savvy way. I will vote with my heart, my mind, my soul. It is my vote, and it is precious.\"

ps: I am guilty of not following her totally though, I will vote with my heart for TJS, but if near the polls, the indications show TCB stand a MUCH BETTER chance and TJS little chance, I will then vote with my head.
I simply do not want another yes-man and we missed out the opportunity to vote in a real check and balance speak-out-when-necessary President.

all above are my personal views and opinions only.

              mummyo, 加油!

All the best to all in the team!! (TJS wins I also veli happi...)

Every election, I HOPE and HOPE and HOPE that Singaporeans will see the light and vote for CHANGE but it NEVER happens.

I will stick my head out and say TT will win. That's cos a large proportion of the electorate are still \"ignorant\" and believe what has been fed to them all these years or they are just politically unaware or don't care or scared.

I've seen with my own eyes the people who come forward to vote and I've every faith that they will vote PAP or PAP-endorsed time after time. I think the 60% they garnered in GE2011 is proof enough.

How does 40% support translates to just 7% of opposition representation in Parliament?!! Is that right?

But I tell myself not to give up in making the change I want to see a reality so I volunteer my services time after time cos no use just gripe-ing about it, I will work to bring about the change.

Actually, all this TT bashing really reminds me why I am anathema to opposition political tactics and makes me want to change my vote back for TT.

Please don’t assume a monopoly of wisdom and think that ALL who vote for Dr TT are somehow blind or lacking in grey matter.

That kind of arrogance is galling, no better than the incumbent party.

Just as the PAP is in the fight for the hearts and minds, the same applies to the opposition. If all the hardcore PAP supporters see are a heaving rabble, or worse, sneering intellectualism, why would that behoove them to switch camps? Don’t care? Then don’t claim to be representing the people.

It is no surprise that the needle stays stubbornly stuck at 40% support or less, it is no more than the opposition leaders (and supporters) deserve.

TCB it is for me. Dr TT is too embedded and too much of the past. But I could yet be could persuaded to vote for him, but further unjustified sneering attacks, and I am not the only one.

                    mummyo,

                    i understand how you feel.

i believe many feel the same way too. (tin peh lin!!)

the change wont happen so soon.

the 'base' needs to be gone first, meaning perhaps another 10 to 15 years (when more illiterate people are gone) then we can start to see real light...

The TPL saga is proof of how unfair the GRC system is. The simplest right we have is that we should be able to vote for individual politicians and not a package deal. That way, we can finally have the best candidates from across the board (each one individually voted in by the people) and the boundaries for each constituency should be set and not changed from election to election. But this is :offtopic: here.

I actually told my husband it's probably 30 years from now before any sort of a change is imminent...

                    Hope I'm still alive then.

It is possible that even if the PAP win 50.0000000001% of the votes, there will still be ZERO opposition in parliament, even if every candidate is from SMC and there is no GRC.

Every candidate needs to win by only one vote majority to be in parliament.

So don't be surprised if the oppo gets 49.99999999% of the popular votes but loses in every seat by one vote.

Unless the constitution is changed to make the parliament one of proportionate representation, in which case we will see quite a number of monkeys in parliament

Saw the mail and was a bit mystified. Then again, when buy house, suddenly property agents of all sorts and patterns start calling me at all times of the day and sometimes night asking if want to sell/rent out - and it’s not just one person calling. And they also know how much I bought, and keep trying to tell me how much I can earn (woah lau, then sleep on street izit).

Back to topic. Watched both english and chinese broadcast last night. Quite enlightening becos I’ve not heard most of them speak before. Was a bit funny for chinese segment when some apparently rely on hypy when reading out their speech.
