I read some days ago in the ST interview when asked if he would quit as President. He said if he disagree with a MAJOR issue, he would quit. Sorry, I don't have the time to dig up the papers yet for your reference. So not that he has a track record of quitting but scared halfway through the Presidency he may quit. Also scared he may be kicked out by the garmen if he too confrontational. His picture showing him with Mr OTC somehow made me a bit nervous. Not sure what he is trying to convey but certainly would not want him to end up liddat. On second thought, you think the garmen would try to treat the next P like how they treat Mr OTC? Think they would not get away with it under current times.

It is also a weak signal to me. However, it seems many Singaporeans are not ready yet for someone too vocal or too bold like TJS who will argue to the till, for fear of instability.

Like limlim, I also feel what we NEED now in our evolving system, we need someone like TJS, but he has his flaws as well. I think VW would be great though, but he doesn't qualify.

So of the 4 candidates, the worst choice would be status quo, the others all have pros and cons, so maybe this can be a first step with a not too drastic change, anyway TJS is only 57 yrs old, he has time to simmer down a bit and be more grandfatherly as what many conservative Singaporeans want. I reiterate, conservative is okay, submissive is not. Else, better change back to appointed President and we can ignore all these points. But it is an ELECTED president to protect our reserves and to check on the existing cabinet, so we are not voting for a respectable looking ceremonial figure BUT pls consider what we are actually voting for the new President to do properly the duties as stipulated. - and it is not to be a yes man.

Perhaps TT is deliberately underperforming to draw the fire and ire away from the one whom they really want to get in? Seriously, TT has never come across as a fool and the way he has gone about conducting his campaign seems to play up his weaknesses (can't speak Chinese) on purpose, and also play to stereotype (arrogant and impatient).

I know this thinking is a bit convoluted... but why not eh?

TT appears too arrogant to accept this 'role'. His arrogant smile tells me he likes hearing good things about himself not the other way round.

Tuesday at TPY stadium. Wed at Yio Chu Kang stadium. 7pm onwards.

TJS & TKL. Sorry, I can't quite remember who is where, but there should be action in these 2 places. TCB so far no news on rally.

I only know TT is out for me as it's far too obvious he has strong backup. TJS as mentioned by someone, is a bit confrontational but agreed that he does raise very good points and issues. TCB looks very warm and serious and TKL seems earnest to serve though he does pale in comparison to the others in speeches. Gotta read more and hear more before casting my vote next Saturday.

My personal view between TSJ and TCB is this..

For TCB, he seems to be a charitable person, and the impression he gives me is that he will work \"hand-in-hand\" with the MIW and provide them \"advises\" and providing suggestions when facing economic issues etc based on his experiences and such.. he keep saying that he will not \"step out of line\" and kinda suggesting that some candidates is trying to promise something that is not within the power of the EP etc.. IIRC..

However, I will not choose someone like him.. becasue..

The PAP has been a very effective ruling party.. I believe, the MIW does not need someone to \"guide\" them.. the People, do not need someone to \"Teach\" MIW what to do..

On the other hand.. The ruling party has power.. A LOT of power.. and powers tends to corrupt.. The People NEED someone to Keep an eye on the ruling party and watch them closely.. Only the EP is able to do this task now.. as the pple have decided not to keep the power in check at the last GE..

Hence, I believe TSJ is a better choice..

Haven't decided who to vote, but some comments: Majority of Singaporeans do not like those who look confrontational, so those who think TJS is so may choose TCB instead.
Singaporeans laugh that the Presidential is for 'show' only - a ceremonious one, but when they get to choose, many go for someone who 'look the part', and I find it very amusing - well, at least with those whom I talked to. So you don't mind having to look at a nice picture in the halls and continue to rant about the 'system'? It is really interesting to see what the outcome of this will be, although I also think there will be many void votes.

Which is worse? Low percentage of win or high percentage of voids? It tells of a country.
I don't see quitting as a form of weakness or giving up. Sometimes quitting is a form of 抗议. If elected, he represents majority of Singaporeans.

Personally for me… From the onset I thought I had someone clearly in mind as I thought that I wanted to see someone with stature as the PE, but I see my vote swaying but it will not be towards TJS. Based on the clips I see TJS does not appear personable and I do not feel that he really has the people’s interest at heart, that is just me… I kinda feel that if elected TJS will build himself up to be a political powerhouse which will have a divisive effect that I do not think Singapore is ready for.


For checks and balances on the ruling govt, based on the recent GE we have already voiced out and the outcome was we have more opposition parties elected into parliament. Let these opposition party members do their job in parliament.

So I guess I have one of the 3 Tans left to consider before Sat.

at this moment the political system of singapore is such that "check and balances" is done via the parliament; the elected president is ceremonial plus custodial


if TJS wishes to be the "check & balance" he should seek to enter parliament which will gives him more legitimacy

as it is now, TJS flip-flopped between the May 2011 GE seeking to enter parliament and then abruptly resigned from the party to contest the EP to talk about "check & balance"…he is merely being a political opportunist seeking his own personal agenda of holding a political office

where is his commitment to serve and better the interest of singaporeans ?

Verykiasu, I agree with u. TJS come across as opportunist and also emotionally involved. Maybe he is too young?? Or perhaps this is really his character.
