NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)

otherwise, what is the meaning when you say NUSH is affliated to NUS ! how - in what way is it being affliated ?
We have access to a large number of NUS research projects and undergraduate courses. -
Did any kids drop out of NUSH? I heard from my son’s classmate that a kid dropped out of NUSH for whatever reason.
-
both NUSH and SST emphasise on Maths and Science.
a) what then is the difference in curriculum covered between these two schools ?
b) SST kids also receive diploma after 6 yrs ? -
SST is 4 years only, and they take O levels.
-
SST is under ngee ann poly, not an IP school

still confused over NUSH and SST … SST part not very clear.
- seems like NUSH leads to NUS eventually (more theoretical based, more research oriented),
- whereas SST (more practical based, more hands on oriented) leads to polytechnic first, then to NTU eventually.
wonder if half way through got students:-
- transfer out of NUSH go into SST, and
- vice versa, transfer out of SST go to NUSH.
after all, both also focus on Maths and Science. It’s just different approach in learning. -

http://www.njc.edu.sg/education_h3.htm[/quote]Yes, but here it is integrated into the curriculum and available as an opportunity to all students – indeed, it is recommended and expected for many. It goes beyond the H3 programme in this respect. Hence the 70-over NUS High projects in the SSEF, for instance. -

IMHO, NUSH is in about the same league as ACSI, RI and HCI in terms of academic performance and the quality of PSLE intake. SST is no where near this league. People will choose between HCI and NUSH, or RI and NUSH, but you don't hear of people choosing between HCI and SST, RI and SST.still confused over NUSH and SST ... SST part not very clear.

SST is certainly not focussing on Math. Besides, you hardly see any participation or winners from SST in the national-level Math & Science olympiads (not to mention the International Math & Science olympiads such as IPhO and IMO - where typically, the 4 schools in the league I mentioned above have shined).after all, both also focus on Maths and Science. It's just different approach in learning.

1st of all, we shd avoid comparing the academic achievements or performance of the IP schools HERE. It OK to query on the curriculum, school policies, facilities etc…
The main diff betweem NUSH and SST is that one ends up with a NUS Dip while the other will finish off with ‘O’ level. What is beyond that depends on the student himself. NUS is just one of the choices for NUSH, but from what I heard, most students r looking beyond our shores.
As for SST, think their pioneer batch is just Sec2 this yr. Although it may be under NP, I’m sure the students are not restricted to the poly/dip route. However, that being said, I’m sure most will agree that it will be interesting to see how the JCs view the relevance or weightage of their (applied) subjects vs the typical ‘O’ subjects this a couple of yrs’ time.
