      All PHPPS parents,

Just curious, with what type of pull/push factors will you consider transferring your child out from PH to schools like MGS or ACS?....
If son was offered a place earlier in ACS Junior or St Andrews, I will go for it.
The stress level is so high in PH and yet there is no secondary school...don't mind him being in the last class in an all boys' school...bottom line affiliation.

        Funx3:
My Gal Reckons that the Other Typical Q (and Perceived to be Easy Q), with Majority Attempting it, Will Be Boring for the Examiner to Mark, and Difficult to Score (unless One has Outstanding Content different from the Majority) ....

While this Q is More Challenging, with higher Degree of Difficulty ....

Would U Advise Your Kid to take up this Kind of Challenge in the REAL PSLE Exam?
        U Either .... Shine .... Or Die (as in :offtopic: ) ....?
I feel that your dd's analysis makes sense.

During my PSLE, many classmates wrote along the same storyline. The CL teacher commented hard to score liao. I wrote sth different- light hearted & humorous and I got a A* at PSLE despite a just above avg performance at the sch exams.

I noticed from my elder boy's essay, those scoring high marks are usu. funnier stories or sth unexpected.

Actually most of the top schools do not have affiliated sec, e.g. NYPS (except for girls?), Henry Park, Rulang.

Quickly start reading more CL books

yes, yes! I rushed out to Popular to buy 2 Chinese story books .. hee.. but easy ones, those with hanyu pinyin, to give her a little help and hopefully it will gradually became her habit.
              markfch:
One of the ways I got ds interested in chinese was to purchase the comical chinese cartoon 喜羊羊与灰太狼 which ds loved
              Is it on CD/DVD?
I bought the 十万个为什么 series & my DD likes it but she doesn't quite understand it due to her limited vocab.

Hey, I experienced the same heart attack when my son was in P1...stress man ! Firstly HCL and secondly my son's dislike for CL. Focused like crazy on his HCL and forgot about his EL.
Sounds like you've been thru' a tough time with HCL. Care to share how you beef up your child's HCL?
              Mrsbongz:
I've been focusing so much on ds' chinese, now his English is really sigh... so frustrating...
Seems like there're a no. of 过来人here who has experienced the same. Did you send your DS to CL or EL enrichment classes?

                Joyfulhands,

I send my DS to Berries. I think they have done a pretty good job in getting him to recognise words. However, when it comes to writing, they have cloze passages now and I find some of the words too difficult for a K2 child to write, e.g. li3 mao4.

wow... thank you all for sharing your thots....

yes, affiliation to sec sch definitely a strong pull factor if half the time will be spend on sport (don't have to worry too much about PSLE result)... and the presence of a strong school swimming team also my consideration...

one important point proposed to me was MGS focus more on \"holistic\" development of the gals and the students are generally happier... I just wonder how much more \"holistic\" than in PH?

And I saw the MGS thread... only ~15 pages... so I think I might be quite lonely there... 😉

PH thread is the most active. Maybe because PH doesn't have PSG. The parents here are not selfish in sharing. Some parents don't like to share for reasons we all know.

                      So many strokes!
My DD goes to Tien Hsia. She came back from lessons one day, point at the new words taught for that week (常常) & told me she doesn't know what it mean! :faint: Her 听写 for last week is 妹妹的字越写越美。Still manageable at this point.

I agree... my teachers are always shocked at my results (both PSLE n Os) they believe I prayed very hard :rotflmao: my strategy was to concentrate on content bcos my CL is lousy beyond words  so I still can get a good score using simple chinese words :imanangel:

nope, mommy doing the 'enriching'... I used to worry that my cmi chinese wil be a hindrance in teachin ds.. but CL teacher and my frens teach me to use the textbook religiously, and so far so gd.. not as gd as markfch's ds  .. but very much improved compared to the start of p1. He didn't even know wat the teacher was saying in class... I don have high expectations as his CL 'genetics' not very gd la :rotflmao:
                        Scary:

For MGS, my fren's child is there.. alot of activities to engage parents... decorating classroom everyterm.. PE/cca parents are invited to volunteer.. for my fren, she meet the other parents in sch so often, they set up their own facebook grp

I find that the words taught at MGS are just as difficult as PH... but PH has a better system to teach CL... my fren's child came back with spelling list, can write, but cannot understand... my ds cannot recall the words on the list (poor memory), but when I refer to his textbk, he can tell me what was taught in class to help him understand.. 😉
