      All PHPPS parents,

Just curious, with what type of pull/push factors will you consider transferring your child out from PH to schools like MGS or ACS?....

Only 1 factor- affiliation to sec sch.

But hv to weigh carefully the CL environment of MGS/ACS vs PH. PH pushes the pupil to do better in CL, the same cant be said for MGS/ACS.

Personally, HAve Encountered a Few Parents thru the years who Transferred their Gals out to Convent Sch with affiliated Sec. All for the Same reason, the Gals R Not Doing Well in Pei Hwa .... and the Parents R Worried that they Could not get into a Good Sec Sch Based on PSLE Results.

PH HCL Std is perceived to be high when compared to typical Pri Sch. Maybe becoz it's a SAP Sch 😉 😉

I thought it's a Myth till I started exchanging info with parents of P6 Gals from other sch in Ext CCA Classes. Their Gals (from Neighbourhood, Or Non-SAP sch) Could Get A* for CL, HCL in their SA1 in P6 ....
My Gal told me Not a Single student in P6 could achieve A* for Languages in SA1 ....

And Their HCL Prelim Compo Today is Quite Tough (at Least for whoever Chooses Q1) .... Something on Writing about P6 Students being Stressed in Preparation for PSLE, and How they Could Propose to lightened the Stress and How They Can Make learning Fun thru this period ....
I'm Surprised at the Maturity of the Q being set .... I Would Have Difficulty writing a Compo on this Topic in the short period allocated during the Exam ....

My Gal's HCL Invigilator (Not her HCL T) commented to My Gal's Class after the Exam that she's surprised that Quite a Number of students R Very Brave to Attempt the Compo to answer this Q (instead of the Easier one on Recounting How they Plan to Spend their Holiday ....)

My Gal, Being the Brave Soul that she is, attempted this Compo Topic and Now is Quite Apprehensive that since not Many try this Q, She Might Get :offtopic: unintentionally ....

Such theme is not uncommon in sec sch. When my elder boy started essay writing in sec sch, he could not meet the minimum no. of characters most of the time (3 marks will be deducted) becos he cant think of anything else to write abt.

PH now doing this to P6ers, meaning better prepared for CL at sec sch lvl.

Yeah .... I thought this topic is more Appropriate for Sec Sch ....
My Gal told me She Manages to Wack out 3 1/2 pages, But Worried that Some of the Contents may be off-Topic ....

          But I Told Her it's OK .... Prelim only -ma .... 😉 😉

          OK .... Now the Big Q ....

My Gal Reckons that the Other Typical Q (and Perceived to be Easy Q), with Majority Attempting it, Will Be Boring for the Examiner to Mark, and Difficult to Score (unless One has Outstanding Content different from the Majority) ....

While this Q is More Challenging, with higher Degree of Difficulty ....

Would U Advise Your Kid to take up this Kind of Challenge in the REAL PSLE Exam?
          U Either .... Shine .... Or Die (as in :offtopic: ) ....?

For us, with our eldest considering PH as the best school in Singapore, if we are in Singapore, mostly we are 打死不走 type. 😉 Ok, seriously we will only consider if the child is selected for gifted programme or we shifted home to somewhere really far from PH. But then, think again, one of my ex-fellowship friends, shifted all the way to tampines and her son is still in PH, with her sending and fetching daily. :scared: She said nowhere is too far in Singapore. :salute:

This is supposed to be a secondary question. Yes, I will choose this since it's something that I may have already experienced. The easier question is something that has not happened. Must have good imagination to make it interesting.

As long as there are some proposals on the 2 areas, i.e. lightened stress and make learning fun + focus is on this period, don't think will be off topic.

If son was offered a place earlier in ACS Junior or St Andrews, I will go for it.
The stress level is so high in PH and yet there is no secondary school...don't mind him being in the last class in an all boys' school...bottom line affiliation.

I feel that your dd's analysis makes sense.

During my PSLE, many classmates wrote along the same storyline. The CL teacher commented hard to score liao. I wrote sth different- light hearted & humorous and I got a A* at PSLE despite a just above avg performance at the sch exams.

I noticed from my elder boy's essay, those scoring high marks are usu. funnier stories or sth unexpected.

PH is a designated PE polling centre, Fri is only a few hours sch day. Then next Mon is sch hol, Tues is publi hol, Wed is Mid-Autumn Festival celebration day, Thur start late day, Fri is Teachers’ Day, then Sept hols.

Actually most of the top schools do not have affiliated sec, e.g. NYPS (except for girls?), Henry Park, Rulang.

Quickly start reading more CL books

yes, yes! I rushed out to Popular to buy 2 Chinese story books .. hee.. but easy ones, those with hanyu pinyin, to give her a little help and hopefully it will gradually became her habit.

One of the ways I got ds interested in chinese was to purchase the comical chinese cartoon 喜羊羊与灰太狼 which ds loved
                        Is it on CD/DVD?
I bought the 十万个为什么 series & my DD likes it but she doesn't quite understand it due to her limited vocab.

Hey, I experienced the same heart attack when my son was in P1...stress man ! Firstly HCL and secondly my son's dislike for CL. Focused like crazy on his HCL and forgot about his EL.
Sounds like you've been thru' a tough time with HCL. Care to share how you beef up your child's HCL?

I've been focusing so much on ds' chinese, now his English is really sigh... so frustrating...
Seems like there're a no. of 过来人here who has experienced the same. Did you send your DS to CL or EL enrichment classes?
