        Dear parents,

My 2 kids go to Punggol Primary - I am very glad we chose this school. My children love school. I never had problem with them saying they do not like to go to school. The teachers concentrated on giving children lifeskills - like learning to work with other people, orgnasing themselves, having self discipline and being responsible and said if this skills were practiced the grades would follow.

The school also subsidises programs like Composition writing course for P5/6 students/ Speech and Drama for P2 students. There is a buddy reading system where P2 students help P1 students read better. There is a group of mothers who volunteer to help really weak children learn sight words/phonics and basic reading. My kids study Tamil - and I find the Tamil teachers caring and really trying hard to reach out to the kids to be interested in the language. I think PPS performance in Tamil is usually better than national average.

I find this is a school with a heart. I would definitely recommend this school. For people expecting lot of homework and academic pushing, lots of papers etc - this may not be the right choice. But for people looking for holistic development with a good focus on academics - its a great school .

Now, The pri 1&2 in the afternoon while pri 3 to 6 morning session. In 2014, don't think there's much a choice as all schools heading towards single session eventually.

Thanks for your reply merkon. I am considering between xin min pri, montfort, sengkang pri and punggol pri. I jus started doing pv at xinmin. Was wondering if any parents have considered the schools I listed before and can share their thoughts. Thanks!

I need to know what is the canteen food price.... need to plan how much pocket $$ to give...

Normal price of 50cents to a dollar should be sufficient.

                        Hi fellow parents,

My eldest daughter just started in PGPS and is also in Elite Education & Enrichment (BASC).

While my daughter,Kristen was in kindergarten (Nativity church kindergarten) we didnt want to put too much pressure on her, realized she had an interest in art and allowed her to concentrate on it and didnt prepare her much for Pri 1, which we are starting to regret. Her school teacher and BASC teachers have commented that she is very slow in terms of learning and communicating.

Her BASC teacher came to us and asked us if she can start "pump-ing" her harder. We were agreeable but after 2 days Kristen started to show signs of reluctance to return to BASC. We spent 1 whole night talking to her before she’s willing to go back.

We’re kinda lost and not to sure what to do with her. Both my wife and i work retail hours, we have another 2 children, and their primary care-giver is their grandmother.

Any tips on how to make Kristen feel more confident on going to sch and helping her improve on her foundation?

                        many thanks,
                        Terrence
