wonderm:
Hubby and I have spoken and we have decided that we should break the news to DS. Reasons:

          1. His classmates will start talking as some of them have already received news yesterday. This might cause more anxiety if no news for him.

          2. This is a small obstacle and he should learn to deal with rejection. Able to pull himself up and move forward in the face of adversity is what he should learn and experience. In future, there may be bigger / more obstacles whereby we are not around to \"protect\" (or hide from) him, so he should learn to be a stronger person.

We felt that he has been \"over-protected\" these years, and have not exactly experienced much adversity / disappointment (he is also too easily satisfied). We just to be very \"practical\" and \"factual\" about the situation and let him see the need to move on and do his best to achieve his dream. Let's hope it all works out!

Pen88n, I would do the same if in your shoes. If I were him, knowing all the friends have already heard the results except me, I won't be able to concentrate on prelim revision. Knowing the outcome actually provides certainty. I am sure he can handle this disappointment and be more determined to do well for Prelim and PSLE. Tell him not getting DSA offer may be good too, he can then choose which school he really wants to go after the PSLE result. All the best to him!

Thanks, everyone (Vlim, Funx3, Paddy Field, Wonderm, phtthp, jtoh, etc......in case I missed some posts), for your advice. I'm now going to prep my \"speech\" / \"discussion notes\" to be in time for DS return soon.
Just to affirm your decision, I asked my ds just now and he said he wouldn't mind knowing the rejection even in the midst of his prelims now, because it'll spur him on. All the best to your ds.

DS has accepted the rejection and back to studying for his prelims. In fact, though I wanted to throw away the rejection letters, he wanted to keep them to remind himself that he had to work harder for PSLE!

Last time I didn't bother to let my boy see the rejection letter. Anyway, a few days later, one CO came in the mail, and then the following week another CO came in the mail on the very last day of the notification dateline for DSA. He never did ask about the other school. We only told him much later. I think it was quite ok, bc he was in mainstream and like the 4th class (not top 2 classes even), so not many around him had applied for DSA, but he'd wanted to try.

We let him open the letters himself, and I must say it was very nervewrecking. He stared at the letters for so long that we were all kept in suspense! Really regret not videotaping the incidences!!! Especially the 2nd CO letter. I think he was too shocked!
