based on results gathered so far from kids who eventually entered via DSA for 2013 Secondary 1, letโ€™s try to summarize the profile of a successful DSA candidate:-

a)\ttend to come from GEP stream.

      refer to quote:-
โ€œRI and HCI take in very few mainstream students via DSA, so competition is very tough. For RI, around 180 out of 225 positions are taken up by GEPpers.โ€

now, this is approx. 80%. (180 out of 225 positions). 80% is a very high percentage - for Top Secondary schools snapped up by GEP students.

      b) remaining small number caters to Sportsmen and Mainstream.

      c) DSA is for those who - demonstrate exceptional ability over and beyond their peers in a particular Subject or Sport.

d)\ttend to take up leadership roles in school like:-

      - being a head prefect/prefect,

      - take part in UNSW competition,

      - take part in national /international competition award,

      - won Edusave scholarship,

      - score High Distinctions in ICAS tests, etc.

      e) must do very well in GAT.

      f) any more other criteria (missing) ?
My ds scored 268 - 275(since p3- p6 ) he got 1st in his level every year in his school .I really dont understand why ri and hci rejected him . Anyone can explain ???

RI and HCI take in very few mainstream students via DSA so competition is very tough. Maybe his performance at the tests and interview weren't as strong as the others? Or perhaps he's very good in all subjects but not outstanding in one particular subject compared to the others? DSA is for those who demonstrate exceptional ability over and beyond their peers in a particular subject or sport. If your son is an all-rounder, as he probably is based on his excellent school results, he would have no problems getting in based on his PSLE. DSA is not for all-rounded students.

I'm sure your son will excel in his PSLE and get into his dream school that way. Good luck!

Jtoh , u have very strong analyze ability !!!
Thk u so much for the detail and advice .
Hi Ms Tay...I can understand how you feel..Nevertheless got to 'take a deeep breath'..and surf through this period and chiong for PSLE together with your son. Your son need your encourage and hugs ๐Ÿ˜‰ which I believe u will do so ...So again all the best to your ds for coming PSLE and being a constant top scorer in his school and I believe he can do well in his psle too...jia you and chiong ah and don't look back :salute:

Phone call with good news for my boy first thing this morning. Nothing so exciting, not premier school, but comforting news nevertheless. I thought not to let him know so he won't be too \"proud\" of himself, but got to go for meeting tomorrow. ;(

            :congrats: to ur DS. :rahrah:
            May I ask which school?

CHS. It's actually the school he wants to go .
That's fantastic! Getting a CO from the school of his choice is the best CO. :rahrah:

              hi jtoh,

besides demonstrate exceptional ability over subjects like Maths - how about other subjects like Science, English or Chinese ?

are these 3 other subjects also considered, or the DSA panel of decision makers only interested in Maths ? Thanks for info.

Is it a photostated copy or is it with original letter head with its red colour logo?..ours is photostated black and white copy le  ...This sort of thing should be original copy with the school letter head right?... :skeptical:

Students can apply to any of the above academic domains for DSA. The specific requirements are stated on each school's website.

Because for RI DSA academic domain is under specific subjects, hence the exceptional ability beyond peers is applicable for each subject domain

So it is a fallacy to assume that other than math will be easier to get in. It is misguided if any parent were to think so
