my company allow flexi-hours and work-from-home arrangements for some years now. it seem to work well in most places, except in Singapore, especially with local staff. Somehow FTs do better.

I think in many cases, individuals start off working in offices, and then later transit to a work from home scheme and just checking into the office every now and then to attend meetings or touch base with superiors. The jobs can be accounting, editorial, data entry, research etc. As long as the work can be carried around in a laptop, it is very much up to the individual and the boss. It is important to maintain quality of work and be very timely in handing over your completed worked when working from home. If you have to stay up all night to finish it, do it. Even if your children are sick, you must not say that you are late with your work because your children are sick unless it is an emergency hospital situation.

And yes totally agree with being timely & responsible in our work , if we want to njoy flexibility. Very often, we have mothers citing children as the reason why they are unable to complete certain tasks. This makes a very lame excuse cos flexi-work is really meant for people with the discipline & good time management skill to make things work. If mothers on flexi-work still cite children as the reason for their inability to meet certain datelines, then it is no wonder why companies do not want to explore this route.

sometimes employers also need to know how to manage flexi-work scheme.
i did part time work before. cos the work nature is such that stuff still needed to be done at home cos while i hold a part time position, i hold a full time work portfolio (albeit lesser projects on hand). i worked during my 'off-days' to meet datelines. result? they added projects to my portfolio cos i 'worked very efficiently'. they didn't see the late nights (3-5am; ie i worked 'free' from 10pm<ds bedtime> to 3-5am) i slogged to meet the dateline just to keep my flexi-work arrangement.

it is not easy to find off-the-cuff flexi-employment.
best is to work from where you are currently working. if you hold a good job portfolio, chances are that the management will be willing to negotiate a work scheme to keep you.

I believe there are people who make a living selling their products on ebay. Anyone doing this may want to share their experiences.


There are also those who sell their products on their blogs. There are a number of websites where you can put up your blogs for free. Maybe someone already doing this can share info.

Last but not least, you can put up your own website, pay someone to do the design and (same or different party) for hosting it.

I am sure there are other viable options which I may not be totally aware of.

LLK, there are ready-made software called Shopping Carts out there for sale. But that would be your Step 2 or 3.

For a start you can start a blog (Blogspot or Wordpress etc) and learn to put your products and info up. And then work on the marketing and logistics.
