Thks mommyNg for sharing. I like this chinese phase. Very good reminder for all of us... and not to be too hard on our kid...

My DS2 took the screening test yesterday, plus the CA test in afternoon, close to like 5 hrs doing test papers in 1 day... Come to think of it, this is crazy to subject a P3 kid thru... Like others, our instruction to DS2 was take morning screening test as practice, and not take it too hard. :xedfingers:

I just wish to find out. For a child who is in GEP and later select a GEP secondary school, does the kid enjoy affiliation type scheme whereby the child does not need to obtain the same level of score as a mainstream child to get into the sec school. If yes, does it only apply to GEP sec schools or all sec schools? TIA

They do assess the children from GEP and mainstream differently for those schools offering DSA. GEP scoring system is different from mainstream.
MOE has do away with the so call GE secondary schools as the IP schools offer SBGE (School based GE) programme, which has some aspect of GE programme in their curriculum. Most of the GE students will end up in one of these IP schools, but the GE students still have to gain entrance with their own merit.

You can get further information from the MOE website:

Well, then I got it wrong. It is Vocab and about the 'worry more for the exams' thing, I know that. The GEP test is smack right between the CA2 exams so I have to deal with both. At least it's over now. 😄

I have a question about GEP but not sure how to phrase it. It’s like exercising helps to keep the body fit and healthy. Is GEP good for the kids who are accepted?

I mean parents who have been through it or parents with kids who have been through it, does it benefit their lives so to speak. I know I’m probably not being very clear in my question. It’s like, does it just benefit the academic aspect or will it translate to something more later in their life?

We study to learn and later for the paper qualification to enter the job market. Is the GEP just to ensure that the top 1% of the cohort does not get bored and able to learn at a level equal to their abilities?

Why am I posting this qn? It’s something that I’ve never experienced and I’ve not thought about it till I have kids going to primary school. Now I find myself rather curious about it. TIA
