Thanks zeemimi.

Hi! Realize and realise , which one is correct? Please help.
Thanks -
Ymy:
Both are correct, but I would encourage students to use the same spelling of the word throughout their work and not have both \"realize\" and \"realise\" in the same composition.Hi! Realize and realise , which one is correct? Please help.

Hi! Mdm Koh, thank you for your reply. My DD wrote realized in her comp, the teacher changed to realised.

Realize is the American spelling, realise is the UK spelling so both are correct but you need to be consistent. -
nms1:
DD's teacher only accepts 'realised'. Her reasoning is Singapore follows British education system (such as 'O' & 'A' levels) and its way of spelling. Therefore, for all words ending with either 'ise' or 'ize', the teacher will only accept 'ise'.Ymy:

[/quote]Hi Tinkerbelle
yes I agree,
after a long time...what happened?? -
* British english words that end in -re( e.g. centre, theatre, fibre) often end in -er in American English (center, theater, fiber)
* British english words that end in -our( e.g. colour, favour, humour) usually end with -or in American English (color, favor, humor)
* verbs in British eng that can be spelled with either -ize or -ise at the end (e.g. recognize/ recognise) are always spelled with ize in American eng.
* Verbs in British eng that end in -yse (e.g analyse) are always spelled -yze in America ( analize)
* In British english verbs ending in a vowel plus l double the l when adding endings that begin with a vowel e.g travel, travelled, traveller. In American
english l is not doubles e.g. traveled, traveler.
* Some nouns that end with -ence in B.english e.g. licence, defence are spelled inAmerican eng (license, defense)
if you set your pc in American eng you can always see the diff. when you are typing using the british eng.
and if your child knows the phonics very well he/she can spell most of the words correctly. -
