Mine is in P1 this year in a school that is nearby. Not an elite school though still popular in the neighbourhood. We did entertain thoughts of moving. But childcare concerns meant it's best we stay put. No regrets. Kid is doing well, and I believe, well regarded by his teachers also. best of all, he can wake up later each morning.
Completely agree! The best school may not necessarily be the best for your child!

.... it's one thing to get kid into a good school, but if one is staying too far away, a LOT of sacrifices have to be made for the next 6 (or more if multiple children) years - wake up early, pickup from school esp if got cca.....
Looking at the results this year, those in P2B and 2C are most probably staying nearer to the schools. I suspect the group of students that stays farther from the school would be those in P2A as enrollment is not hindered by the distance of their house from the school.

          Just an observation. 😂

Very true, but those who are eligible for 2a may not consider more than being able to get in without much work. Know a family who has to wake up really early to get young one from punggol to bt timah every morning. Not easy

Indeed! To me, the most important criteria is caring and dedicated teachers, next come distance (within walking distance or only a few bus stop away). Whether the school is branded, elite, or whatever is in fact the least important in my consideration.

Those whom were caught were probably due to the fact that they ultimately did not stay in the address they used during registration. If a family genuine stays in the address they use for registration after enrollment, I think such cases are genuine and should not be penalised.

Correct me if I am wrong. 😄

You are correct. those that were caught were usually those who only used the address as a letterbox (ie not staying there). But moving house is something not to be taken lightly. it's one thing to get kid into a good school, but if one is staying too far away, a LOT of sacrifices have to be made for the next 6 (or more if multiple children) years - wake up early, pickup from school esp if got cca.

nothing strange. new policy this year.

in the past, phase 3 is first come first serve. this year is ballot.

                    Hi there,

i’m staying at Punggol Central and is within 1 km of Mee Toh & Horizon…
I have not done any PV, so i guess i will fall in Phase 2C. And judging from this year situation, my DD will definitely need to ballot next year. Actually till now, i have not decided which school to enrol… Reason why i have considered Mee Toh is that it offered Higher Chinese, does anyone knows Horizon offer Higher Chinese too?
Also, normally when is the Open House for each school?

hi! appreciate if someone can clarify: I’m staying 1-2km of Holy Innocents’ Pri. Under Phase 2C balloting, it was <1km in 2010 and 1-2km in 2009. Will I know the distance for 2C balloting in advance next year, b4 I register my child? Meaning that if I know in advance it’s <1km, I’ve no chance and will hv to register at another pri sch. Or will I only know after I register, i.e. if it’s <1km, then I’m out of 2C and will end up in 2C supplementary?

You can call up the school on the last day of P2C registration to find out the likely distance category that will undergo balloting and decide then.
