I think you are right. Journalistic writing does not allow for use of descriptiveI'm probably wrong. But....
Actually I thought journalistic writing is a form of writing that states what's going on and strips out descriptive phrases (eg 'it was a hot day' vs 'sun is shimmering in the bright blue sky').
For my kid's journal, he did manage to put in some of the descriptive phrases that TAS taught. teacher didn't say much.
Yes, in P school, it's more creative writing. in Sec school, I understand it's more analytical in nature. so quite different styles.
phrases. I have come across some teachers who ask my kids what is the
meaning of some of the words they use in their compo. One even said
there is no such word as 'pell-mell'.
So sometimes even if the teacher does not put a tick above their good phrases, I am ok cos I know some teachers do not have wide range of vocab. That is
why hard to find school teachers in school who can teach compo well so
we parents have to outsource to outside enrichment.

Tks ymy! Actually m still deciding btw icl and tas? Aiyoyo...which is better?? Headache..heard icl is much cheaper?Hi! I agree with Coolit. Younger child needs more guidance from parents. My DD has been with TAS about four months now . I don't think she knows how to apply the phrase in her composition. She is in P1. She is required to write picture composition for her Writing assessment. She told me that her composition was too short after her exam yesterday . I have yet to receive the paper .
Hi! Nissin, fees are $388 per 10 lessons. 2 hrs once a week. You can let your child attend a free trial class. -
porkypig:

Hi nissin,
I compared before icl and tas is about the same. Maybe few dollars difference only. -

Oh is it? Icl gave me the impression that it's value for $$.. in dat case, will consider tas.. Tks!Hi nissin,
I compared before icl and tas is about the same. Maybe few dollars difference only. -
hi nissin,
I faintly recall that the difference is like 50cents or few dollars. very little.
Other factors to consider, class size, what is covered, teachers, location, timing.
One thing that sealed it for me was that icl is only lower pri. Once kid hits upper pri, I have to go through the whole hog of ascertaining time/location and trying to call in. Also, if centre closes, I have to scramble to find another location. sorry, that makes 2 things now.

difference is not 50 cents lah
if not wrong TAS charge $388 for a term(10 lessons, can some one confirm this? not sure of they increase the fees). for icl its $250(lower pri) for 8 lessons. -
