I agree with vlim, P5 results are important as well...vlim:
[quote=\"yukileioh really??!!!!! Thot they usually don't have CA1?? I remember this year they only have CT, which start from end Apr & end by mid May. So, I consider this as SA1. So you mean next year they'll have both?
Emm ..sorry I think it is called ct also instead of ca. But p6 ct1 is around early march, just before the march 1week holiday... So is much earlier then p4&5 ct1. Sa1 is in may.
So encourage your son to put in more effort for the final term to secure good results for SA2....
Good Luck to your DS....
:thankyou: LangMum. He's aware of the importance & I can see that he's trying to put in more effort in his study.

Here is where we look at an anchoring point in behaviour coaching in this case: The child originally wanted to be in HCI, and if he were to be in HCI and when the going gets tough, he would have got back to the anchoring point and re-evaluate his reasons for wanting to be in HCI, would most likely find strength and motivation to pick himself up again and try his best, and usually would succeed.
I agree with the moral of your story, ie try DSA only for your dream school. But I do wonder if the boy would have struggled in HCI too, as his results were good enough to secure him a place in either RI or HCI anyway.Otah:
Heard an interesting story in the past about how one mainstreamer end up landed in RI not to his desire. He dream school was HCI. Both RI and HCI rejected him at DSA but RVH accepted him. To be safe he accepted RVH DSA offer. When PSLE released he did well enough to go HCI and RI, so quickily went to appeal lor. Then RI accepted him and HCI put him on waiting list. Afraid that he ended nowhere to either of these schools, he took up RI. When he later struggle in RI, he regretted going for DSA.
Moral of the story : Try DSA only for your dream school, and focus on PSLE
When he went to RI, he was asked to go to RI for whatever reason, one possibility would be a \"victim\" mind when it got tough. Usual sign would be to blame whoever persuaded him to go to RI. Hence to get him on his foot again, counselling and coaching intervention is needed to pace him through this difficult time.
Just my thoughts. -
yukilei:
And remind him not to get complacent even if he gets very good results for P5.
:thankyou: LangMum. He's aware of the importance & I can see that he's trying to put in more effort in his study.
Mine did exactly that after getting good results for his P5 SA2 and P6CT1/CA1 and his P6 SA1 marks really suffered. -
phankao:
:congrats: phankao & DS on his CO from his dream sch.
Phone call with good news for my boy first thing this morning. Nothing so exciting, not premier school, but comforting news nevertheless. I thought not to let him know so he won't be too \"proud\" of himself, but got to go for meeting tomorrow. ;(ngbrdad:
Now DSA results for all the independent IP schools are out.
Only left NJC, DHS, RVH, all government schools.......

That's why it's also not easy to score > 80%.
When She Told Me that, I'm Like :skeptical: :?
:hi5: DD (a mainstreamer) also has Science Practical test in sch for SA1.
They did a starch test on leaves with iodine. -
Sylx:
Well, the girls' schools seems to like SMOPS platinum very much...I got it, and RGS, NY and NUSH all gave me CO. I'm not even a GEPper.

Hi Yukilei,yukilei:
my ds said 2 of his classmates received rejection letter from HCI... so not geppers HCL dsa applicant got CO..
My Ds said his senior received rejection letter too. But his score is < 80%. How abt ur Ds's classmates?
My DS score is 79.xx and he received WL for RI, and rejection for HCI and ACSI. The same for some of his classmates with <80%.
So your earlier question on whether Gepper with < 80% stands a higher chance in ASCI or HCI compared to RI, the answer is 'No'.
To prepare your DS, make sure he get >80%...
Hi LangMum,
:congrats: on your DS's WL from RI. Hopefully, it'll become a CO. Good luck. :xedfingers: -
ngbrdad:
Can it be the GEP kids that were rejected by HCI did badly in their Chinese ?
My DS Chinese so-so only. When I heard that part of the interview was conducted in Chinese, I thought liao coz he jiap kantan. But surprisingly he still got CO from them. -
