This morning, I wake up, and felt that i have failed my country. The feeling is still here, hours later

concern2:
One of the major concerns of MNCs is political stability. Singapore is bent on this advantage - but at the cost of its people. The divide is caused by the people who created it in the first place, yet we continue to hub on stability. STABILITY OF WHAT? Stability of having bigger cracks to balance on lest we become the ones to fall through? I can yet find my own resolution.
So... if the MNCs pull out and jobs are lost, it will not cost people their livelihoods... their spending power... their peace of mind? So... you want the MNCs to pull out to gain a quantum leap in political change, as if that will not ALSO cost the people?
It seems to me that the pace of change is nice and brisk. A good warning has been given to the MIW. There will be greater debate in parliament... and in the next 5 years, the opposition will strengthen and will be more ready to take on governance as (and if) PAP further weakens (in its ability to stay in touch and attract men/women of calibre). That is a pretty good balance between change and status quo.
One mustn't be in such a hurry to CHANGE, CHANGE and CHANGE that we forget that the bathtub holds both the baby and the bath water... and why throw the baby out with he bath water. We may be somewhat disappointed in the results but there is always a tomorrow to hope in.
My humble 2 cents.
As for PAP scaring people to vote for them, there is really no basis. One thinks that the internet gives anonymity but I know for a fact that if anyone wanted to, they CAN (and in some criminal cases) they DO track down exactly who is writing what and from where. The technology exists to do that. We are brave and loud-mouthed and abusive because we think we can't be tracked. The truth is, no one bothers to track. This reflects the government's tolerance of dissident views and determination to allow the people's voices rise up.
I have written severe anti-govt pieces on my blog. They tracked me down. I did not go to jail. Indeed, there was an earnest desire to listen and dialogue and find solutions. Elections are over. We need to work with the government we have. We should NOT shut up and submit. We should continue to say our piece and give our feedback and help each other do better. Until the next elections, where we get to choose again.
So let's stop with these conspiracy theories... people are scared... people are afraid... people don't wanna risk... My question is, when I write a severely anti-govt piece, I stand up and show my face to the government and I present the logic of my stand. They KNOW who I am. We have conversed. Those who come here and write out conspiracies and unflattering descriptives, would you say the same things with faces unveiled? -
65% not happy …

Yup, could not help wishing TKL had pulled out and TJS did not appear! Then TCB would win. Even hubby who was so adament about voting in the \"one who will create the most trouble for the garmen\" could not help thinking this way too. He thought TCB would win by a very comfortable margin so he cast his votes the \"opposite\" way. I mean, that is how lah, now nobody wins except you-know-who. Shot ourselves in the foot, snooked, whatever....we still could not seem to get out of the election trap (ie. the GRC strategy, the never-before number of PE candidates etc..).
Raysusan, indeed it does look like we were snooked. :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: :stupid:raysusan:
Combined votes of TCB and TJS are more than TT's in all centers. We shot ourselves in the foot again.
I really have to :udaman: to Ah Gong. :scared:
Then again, a win is a win. To quote Jeff Probst of The Survivor : \"The tribe has spoken\".
So let it be.

Same here. Went to bed at 1.30 am after hearing TCB had asked for a recount. Could not help feeling pissed about TKL not pulling out and TJS (now I am starting to understand allegations that he is opportunistic by standing out to be a candidate. He got a lot of votes half a mil is no joke but then now the PE result is like this. Is this what he wanted?)
I went to bed at 1.30am after hearing the recount and TT has slight lead.... Couldn't bring myself to watch anymore. Woke up feeling sore about the marginal loss..... I would be happier if it was TCB......hquek:
Agree. Woke up to hear results and saw new prez giving speech. He won by 7269 votes. every vote counts.
tcb ran a good race, but it was such a near miss.
Am also wondering how our electorate can be smarter instead of being trapped by the system. This election and outcome seems to have left a bad taste in my mouth and soreness in my heart.

Yeah... I feel it a pity too. -

Another way of looking at it is that TT + TCB (both PAP men) is far more than the non-PAP faces. MIW still have some sort of mandate.

After so many hours… can’t help but still feel the loss…
I am frustrated with some family members for voting for TKL as they wanted to help him not to lose his deposit. That is the worst decision ever. Can’t people vote with their heart on what they think it’s the best??? Sometimes second guess too much become act smart and due to that, they missed the big picture.
I am also angry that why can’t the other 2 let it be a 2 man fight? They probably know this is the best thing to do. What they are doing is good for their own ego but bad as it is vote dilution…
Hopefully, I will start to forget this. But never thought a marginal loss in PE can affect me so much. If it is more than 2%, ok we will take it gracefully. But it’s only 7269… it’s really not alot. -

He did say, \"Later please...\". His attention was on his supporters, I think that's fair.
His supporters were ALL EYES ON THE TV!!!!!! :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:ZacK:
Actually did you notice how TT brushed CNA's reporter May Wong aside last night? I thought it was rather 'high handed' and reflected his true character and nature. I really doubt he has a listening ear to us, the common people. JMHO.
Yes I noticed that too... Maybe he was in a rush, still he could have just say to her ... Later please before going off...
It was reported that he was rushing to the Election Dept as recount was mentioned.
