      Chenonceau:

One thinks that the internet gives anonymity but I know for a fact that if anyone wanted to, they CAN (and in some criminal cases) they DO track down exactly who is writing what and from where. The technology exists to do that. We are brave and loud-mouthed and abusive because we think we can't be tracked. The truth is, no one bothers to track. This reflects the government's tolerance of dissident views and determination to allow the people's voices rise up.

I have written severe anti-govt pieces on my blog. They tracked me down. I did not go to jail. Indeed, there was an earnest desire to listen and dialogue and find solutions.

So let's stop with these conspiracy theories... people are scared... people are afraid... people don't wanna risk... ........
Those who come here and write out conspiracies and unflattering descriptives, would you say the same things with faces unveiled?
I was not sure about your purposes for these comments, and limlim has engaged some points.
Your points are valid to a certain extent. However, you seem to imply
      1) all of us do not think we can be tracked.
      2) all of us only dare to make our comments behind the net.

Believe me, we all know everything we say on the internet can be tracked. Eg if Chief wants to, she can track any one of our IPs and it will lead to our home and us, so it is akin to speaking with our faces unveiled.. So kindly refrain from trying to scoff at our expression of our views. This has been proven by the arrest of those who wrongly make rascist remarks or those who has the intention of fraud in the forum.

basicially we are all just stating our personal opinions. Sure, we get carried away and make fun of those we do not like, but isn't that what we do amongst neighbours and colleagues too ? and yes the government today is tolerant and non-repressive to a certain extent. But there was a time, when comments like these are spoke about in public, there is a real danger of being invited for coffee.

At this age of internet, blogging and many many forums, there are bound to be some ugly comments, but as long as we are mature adults enough to NOT cross the line ( and this line is usually stretched a little more during elections in the past few years ).

None of us deny the fact that this government has its strengths and the good it has done for the country, but do note that most times we kpkb for the sake of those who are left behind, the needy, those that fall through the cracks.

And yes, the MPs today are not all good in reaching out, this is rightly pointed out by JonC. I have stated this to my previous MP when she did her door to door visits. She was a dedicated MP, but sitll many dont like her, but you gives out newsletter every month, she arranges neighbourhood trips to Malaysia, holiday celebrations, and several charity work as well. I do not mince my words to much, whenever she asked my view on the PAP. There are several who gives a bad name, and some who simply treat the MP as a status thing...the allowance helps of course. But we do see good ones.

The PM has made some changes after the GE, some I think for the better. The retirement of unpopular Mininsters, for eg. He has shown he does not want to hang on to his predecessor's apron strings, and that can only be good for us.

But we see all these genuine drive and energy at some opposition parties during the GE, we naturally want to push for more good people inside the parliament.

For this PE, on hindsight yes, it happens again. We pushed too hard. We had a chance to settle for a small change to someone like TCB, but a substantial numbe rof us tried to push for MORE too fast with someone without PAP ties. much like we led 1-0, could have accepted it and defended, but some players went for broke to make it 2 or 3, and at the end, they equalise and it ended 1-1. Status quo.

This forum has been great to share many comments and views. One reason was because it did not allow personal attacks in any form, directly or indirectly ).

      Peace

In other countries, voting is not compulsory, it is only so in singapore.
It is NOT compulsory here either. You just don't show up at the polls and your name will be taken off the roll of Electors for the next round and only gets put back on when you re-register yourself as a voter. Eg. If you didn't show up to vote for the GE2011 in May, you won't have to vote this PE2011, GE2016 (if have etc.) and forever after unless you re-register yourself.

For me personally, TCB is still NO CHANGE. To me, he is the same as TT. I feel that I can't count on either to speak up against their ex-colleagues should the need arises. 🤷

            mummyo is right!

for people who are on wheelchair and have problem raising their hands to hold a pen properly to write (suffering from some muscle locomotion related to limbs), they don’t need to vote. Or some sick folks at nursing homes, hospital ward, hospice - don’t have to vote.

election is over, i hate the result but we need to move on…

i believe now our gayment will try to import tons of new citizens until the next GE.
They knew they gain a lot of votes from them as they can see it from the % of votes they got by ‘those area’

in 6 years’ time, the PEC may issue 10 COE or totally scrap the COE…learnt from yesterday, better to have as many candidates as possible to split the votes

they still never learnt that unity is strength and thought they are so clever to have been given COE to contest

why in those days under President Ong Teng Cheong’s time and during President Nathan’s time, we don’t have so many candidates to choose, whereas now got 4 ?

Watching the Nomination 'live' on CNA. These are my observations and personal opinions.

TCB - speak with sincerity and dignity, can almost feel his heart for Singapore and the people of spore; stresses he wants to be a unifying figure to bring sporeans together.

TT - speak confidently and assuredly. enough said.

TJS - opens his mouth only and \"offended\" the government already. Say he wants to be the \"checks & balances\" to (quoting him) prevent the government from \"abusing their power\".

TKL - the only one to speak in 4 languages, yes, including tamil when calling for votes. And unlike the other 3, he spoke in Malay first, followed by Tamil, Chinese and English. Strange...seems like he is trying to garner the minority votes. After his speech, he even 'hi-fives' with his team of supporters on stage. Hmmm... abit making light of the serious and dignified PE, if u ask me.

like it or not, only TT and TCB are serious contenders

the other, with due respect to their braveness, will be 'also run'

                        I going for TCB.

My gut feel of the end results:

                        TT - 35%
                        TCB - 32%
                        TJS - 18%
                        TKL - 15%

The more candidates the better coz TT has a good 'base' of those who don't read to begin with...

so it is 35% vs 65%, what an indictment

he could win an election but majority did not vote for him

under estimated TJS and over estimated TKL
