        Hi maid,

Thanks for the help! Your son's godpa sure knows his stuff! The Pinnacle looks like the perfect item that meets my requirement. Please thank him for me.

I will still give tankee's suggestion a try first. Hooking up a VCR to a DVD recorder sounds like a viable option. Furthermore, I don't have to spend any $ since my mom has both. πŸ˜‰

You are most welcome, BigD. Yes, he knows his stuff. Think his job is more or less related to this line and plus he loves meddling with such stuff and has helped me on a number of occasions and that's why I knew straight away that he's the guy to ask the moment you posted that question.

No worries, will again cut and paste your message here for him! πŸ˜‰

            Hi 25hourmaid,

            very nice of you πŸ™‚

            BigDevil,
hope you dun mind.....if you are trying and successful, can let me know?
If you are willing and price reasonable, perhaps once y ou are done with your videos, I can rent the equipments from you to convert my own recordings too πŸ™‚ I dun have a desktop at home (only a slow laptop) ....and dun know how to fix up, so quite IT idiot and has been procrastinating.......
Currently, all my tapes are in the high8, video8 etc (only know it's the small 8mm stuff)....dun even know if there's any adaptor to play it anymore.

            Thanks.
Hi, I will be trying tankee's suggestion first and will let you know if it worked (I believe it will).

The Dazzle DVD Recorder solution suggested by maid should work too, and it looked like it comes with all the equipment you need for video capturing.

The main hardware the Dazzle has is this:
            http://postimage.org/image/1aqqo1pes/ http://postimage.org/image/1aqsbl1wk/

which connects to your USB port (so either desktop or notebook will work), and you can connect your video player to it with RCA cable (the red, white, yellow cable).

The only obstacle you might face is finding a player/adaptor that can play your Hi8 tapes. Unfortunately all I have is a normal VCR, so I won't be able to help you with that.

              Hi,

Thanks. In the past, there used to be an adapter that can play 8mm tapes in the normal VCR, probably if your solution works, I'll go hunt for THAT adaptor. Otherwise, next option is to search for old Hi8 camcorder.....cos' they will still have all these I/O ports.

Not sure about this.......VCR is analog, DVD is digital........dun think DVD recorder can record analog directly, believe a capture card is required πŸ™‚
If can directly work like this, those shops should have closed down long ago.... just my thoughts.....

I think you can start hunting. Between tankee and maid's solutions, I'm pretty sure one of them will work.

I'm only worried my mom's VCR is too old and only have coaxial out. Then I will have to hunt for an adaptor for coaxial to RCA conversion. 😞

Sorry cwc…still no time to try it out yet, especially since the VCR is at my parents’ home.

Hi cwc, if you are still waiting for my result....you will have to wait even longer.

My mom had misplaced the VCR tape I want to convert!! 😒
