All About Choosing and Buying Pianos
-
hi all,
I was told that the price of piano keeps rising, esp. for acoustic pianos, is that true? -
Yes, generally prices for acoustic pianos (and other acoustic instruments) rise.
-
i had monitored for one year only, seems stills steady, no idea of years ago

Depends what makes of pianos and models you are referring to. The "big names", and I mean internationally big names, have a very steady rise in price. Old, old, old Steinways still fetch a very good price. If you are talking about Yamaha, the high end models have gone up in price too, not in terms of thousands but maybe a hundred or two within the last 5 yrs or so? Low end models won’t fluctuate much but prices have not dropped either.

I kept bombarding the sales guy about the differences between Yamaha and Kawai pianos. Maybe he kind of pressurized by that too...

Serendipity:
My DD started learning at age 4yrs 3mths (Mar 2010). Teacher/music school recommended a Casio keyboard.... right now, we are looking at upgrading it to an acoustic or digital piano as DD will be going for her exam next year.Hoping for the more enlightened ones to give some advice here...
For a young 4+yo beginner (but hopefully
long-term learner), what is the wisest option?
1) a brand new Clavinova (in the range of $2k+)
2) a brand new Hailun125 (which seems to be value for money at $3k+ right? Would the keys be too hard for a young beginner though?)
3) a brand new Yamaha JU109 (maybe <$3.5k if during sale? But it doesn't seem to be an exam model, i.e. < 121cm tall)
4) any other suggestions?
I'm a little worried about getting a 2nd hand upright, cos it seems like a risky gamble.
If we get a digital piano,
- is it true that we can save the $$ we'd have to spend on tuning and electricity for the heater?
- am i right to say that height of the piano doesn't matter because it's relevant only for acoustic pianos?
- what other pros and cons are there as compared to acoustic pianos?
Thanks in advance!!
I fullly agree with DD teacher's recommendation as I will only invest more when my DD shows great interest with music/piano.
Does anyone have any comment on ANZCA vs ABRSM? I like ANZCA because it's a lot more lively as compared with ABRSM. But I heard ABRSM is a lot more widely accepted but not ANZCA, say for DSA.
