just wonder if any parent can fill us in on which is a better choice, the SPI TLC bag or the newer SPI bag models ?


when I went there to try it out, the TLC bag was slightly heavier, but seems better built ? with better zips and more slots in the bag for better organisation, but that also adds to the weight.

I bought the TLC model instead of the newer model. My boy's been using it this Jan. Very satisfied with the investment.


I based my decision on the top arc of the bag. TLC has a more \"right-angled\" top as compared to the new model. This means that the A4-size books or files would be able to fit in nicely. The new model's rounded arc may cause the files or books to develop \"dog-ears\"

we finally bought the newer SPI model bag, with the huge SPI words across it(looks pretty ugly), only because of the top handle that is woven at the top, instead of the older TLC model, because the top handle is woven only at the corner seams with the shoulder straps. The TLC model on display seems a bit worn off at the top handle.

yes, i was actually eyeing the TLC model, looks more pleasing than the newer ones. And the zips are metallic, looks better built in terms of the material. ALso the interior is wider, can fit in A4 size ex bks, files, etc.

not sure if its a good buy ?

Well, since you have already bought it...don't doubt anymore


Just tell yourself that it's going to benefit your child alot with your thoughtful buy! Such bags sure would assist the child to manage the heavy weight on their back better. In fact the bag itself may appear heavy but if it's strapped properly on the child's back, it appears much lighter.

Make sure that the top of the bag rests probably just a couple of inches below the child's shoulder...not to let the bag droop too low as it would not allow the ergonomic functions to serve its purpose of a good grip on the shoulder and tapering support on the back.

Much as it seems sensible to get a trolley bag (seeing the amount of stuff primary school kids are made to bring to school on a daily basis these days), some schools strongly discourage the use of trolley bags (my girl's school is one of them). I did not know this until it was too late (already bought). :stupid: The reason given was that other students may trip over it.

So my girl was made to carry the bag within school compounds. It's heavy and uncomfortable for her to do this.

You may want to check what your child's school policy on this is just to make sure.

In the case of my kids, roller/ trolley bag is either not allowed or discouraged. If the kids need to climb the stairs, the roller and the bag frame will add weight to the bag.


You can consider those ergonomic bags. My kids started with lego bag. Realised that the bag itself is heavy. But quality is good as it is very durable. We also wanted to make them happy by giving them a nice bag for P1 so that they feel happy gg to primary school.

She got sick of the bag after 1 yr. Currently both are using Deuter ergonomic bags. Kids nowadays will check out what their friends are using and have their own preference.
