actually my child will be in the P1 2011 registration and i intend to declare that my parents will be taking care of my child. I am looking at Pei Chun as my parents is staying the block just behind the school so it's very convenient. But I'm also worried that my child may not be able to catch up with the academic over there. hmm..any comments to share?
Hi jaslin_yap,

Hi GreenQ,

MOE will not accept 'will be taking care...' for the purpose of the Statutory Declaration (SD). In fact, the moment they ask you whether your parents are currently looking after your child and the answer is no, they will not even give you the SD form. Furthermore, you need to provide since when (the date) your parents have been looking after the child. Although they do not have any guidelines on by when the child should have been taken care of by the grandparent, the MOE staff told me it should be 'all along'. This is even so for my case where I could have change my NRIC address to my in-laws' place since I have already sold my existing HDB flat (pending completion). The unexpected outcome upset my plan and now, I had to apply for school under Phase 2C Supplementary. Do plan early to avoid the disappointment I had to go through. -

but you can actually tell them your \"foster parents\" have all along been taking care of your child right? i meant how would they know if they are not the one taking care of your child in the past? sometimes a bit of white lie do help and is understandable right? they won't go and check on your past right?
Well, you may be right but you will be taking a risk especially when someone find out and file a complaint. Remember, the SD may be invoke against you anytime even after your child is admitted to the school. Not only you could get yourself into trouble, your parents (or in-laws in my case) will also be implicated. In my case, I did not want my in-laws to go thru it as it is unfair to them. Hence, I decided against any form of 'white lies'. It can be very damaging to the child if after spending some time in the school and having bonded to friends there, he is asked to leave due to his parents' lies. Do consider carefully... -
Juz a reminder for all. If one uses parent’s/in-law’s address for registration, you’ve to add 1km to the distance, ie, if your parent’s address is within 1km, MOE will take that as 1-2km.

I think the adding of 1km only applies for those parents/in-laws who live within 1km. For those living between 1km-2km, it will remain as that...else no need to go thru' the foster parents scheme if taken as outside 2km

Hi there,
My husband & I have decided to send our boy to either:
(a) St Stephen’s - which is my hubby’s alma mater & is very near our home in Marine Parade
(b) St Andrew’s - which I personally prefer but we don’t have connections so we will prob have to join as PVs to get into phase 2b. I really don’t mind the hours spent but am worried that the distance will work against me in the event I have to ballot! Will it?!
Would value any opinions or advice from other parents. Thanks so much! -

Hi cocoatina!(a) St Stephen's - which is my hubby's alma mater & is very near our home in Marine Parade

Based on statistics for 2008 and 2009, there was no balloting in St. Andrew's in Phase 2B. However, take-up rate were high in both years. Taking into account the fact that the number of PRs has been increasing over the years, and other factors, you have to be psychologically prepared there will be balloting in P2B, as observed in 2006 and 2007. -
Having gone thru' the P1 exercise this year, my advice is go for St Stephen. Is St Andrew much better than St Stephen? If not, the proximity to your home will be a very significant advantage (unless you are planning to move).
Of course, you can also do PV at St Andrew to give yourself an additional option but still apply for St Stephen under Phase 2A1/2. Then monitor the application status at St Andrew to see if you want to apply depending on how good is your chance of getting a place there under Phase 2B.cocoatina:

It should be Phase 2A1/2.
