Enrichment programmes

I agree. Best \"enrichment\" is from parents. At this age, shower them with lots of attention. Do activities together: art, singing, etc. You can do some \"enrichment\" like asking the child to go and get 2 oranges for you for example. This is to encourage them to count, show them. Of course you teach them 1 to 10 by singing, etc.Little Neuro Tree, Growing Up Gifted.....
Personally, I believe the best \"enrichment\" for this age group is family (social) interaction and lots of opportunity to explore their surroundings through hands-on activities and play.
Both my kids have never attended any special program. Both are in gifted programs now. -
Hi, mothers…I am wondering is it really necessary to start my 3 yr old gal on enrichment program. I actually wanted her to have "free time" as I want her to have a nice childhood. But after seeing so many people bringing their kids for enrichment programmes, I begin to wonder and sometimes confused.
My girl is attending childcare, is the programme sufficient enough?
Greatly appreciate your input. -
Hi Princess Ariel
Actually all depends on the parent, cos nowadays all very kiasu… haha… I started mine on phonics at age 4 years. I personally think that it is important that the kid can read as early as possible so that they can start their learning journey ahead… -
Really depends on you as well as how good is the program at her childcare. I personally do not believe in spending on enrichment programs, yet want my kids to be well-prepared for P1 when the time comes. Hence, I spend quite a fair bit of time searching for a childcare that caters to a satisfactory curriculum (by my standards, at least) as well as takes good care of the kids. That way, they can learn what they need to in order to be well prepared for P1 & yet get to spend quality & fun time with us parents during weekends (& hence have certain amount of decent childhood).
My son has been attending the chosen childcare for over 2 months & I’m happy with his progress so far (social & otherwise). If all goes well, I will start my younger girl in the same school when she’s ready. -
Dear Daddies and Mummies,
Do you have any recommendation for my DD (15 months) to attend enrichment classes such as Gymboree, Kindermusik? We are planning to bring her on weekdays to attend the class since Mummy has leave to clear.
We want to find out what other enrichment classes there are in addition to Gymboree and Kindermusik. We want to choose one and send her there.
Thanks! -
hi, i send my toddler to Zoophonics toddler class. for the toddler class, not much phonics is taught. it’s mainly singing, play a simple instrument, story telling and some craft work. i’m not looking for intensive learning for my toddler, but just some activities that she can engage in and interact with other children. coz she’s quite shy when around with other kids. i can see she enjoy the class and she will laugh when the teacher and kids are singing. when i sing the songs to her at home, she was very happy and laughed together with me. hope this helps and you can look around and see what’s suitable for you.
i have attended kindermusik trial lesson for toddlers and it’s shorter than the zoophonics class. it’s only singing, play simple instruments and storytelling. -
