pointe is to stand/dance on toes?
Yes. The teacher has to assess that the student's muscles, feet and legs are strong enough before allowing them to go en pointe. -
oh... well... that's a long way more to go for DD... right nw... she's enjoying herself & learning some \"gracefulness\"... :boogie:
we'll see whtr her interest prolongs or not...

Of course you won't find overweight gymnasts in Olympics. These are competitors at the top of their game. But you'll find muscular compact powerhouses, for eg Mary Lou Retton. Not very attractive either. Gone are the days of your slim gymnasts like Nadia Comenici.Yes, good to try maintain slim figure.
bec if too fat, dancing becomes clumsy - like elephant trumping around.
stand on tiptoe also feel heavy.
dancing also not so nice. Less graceful if compared to somebody else who is tall, slim and graceful.
besides ballarinas, gymnasts is another group that are slim.
so far haven't seen fat gymnast appearing in Olympics on tv ... -

The drawback is that some of the girls get anorexic leanings. I've seen it happen.
no wonder those in primary level are so lean.. none have tummy lor..jtoh:
Yes, there are teachers who will ask the girls to keep slim, lose weight etc. Especially in the weeks leading up to the exams. Girls with tummies are 'gently' reminded to lose them. -

Why isn't she doing Intermediate Foundation?
She is still with RAD Grade 6 (2nd year). when the same teacher opened a pointe CSTD class last year and she wanted to join in order to experience the “pain” earlier than expected.
My dd trained under RAD syllabus when she was 4 and now she is in Grade 6 level and started to join CSTD grade 6 Pointe last year in order to get onto pointe sooner. I enjoy more while watching RAD during their training as music is more pleasant and that the syllabus is softer and prettier, it is composed to suit the steps not the other way round so it really does flow.mama of 2:
Yes, you are right, my dear little poppy!
:rahrah:

You can do pointe in both Inter Found and Grade 6, if your teacher deems you strong enough. I'm surprised the teacher opened up a separate CSTD Grade 6 class for pointe because pointe is taught in Inter Found and Grade 6 too.
