Since this is the 2011 PSLE thread, may I check with your dd/ds, for both the english and chinese oral, is the picture more ‘complicated’ than those shown in the oral assessment books or those that they practise in the exam. ‘Complicated’ as in the sense that there are many events happening in the picture that the child needs to talk about. Around how many events/points in each picture? From what I know from my son last year, english picture is less complicated and it is ok for the teachers to prompt you with more questions.

      TIA.

        Leanne:
        Hi Tinkerbelle,

Have to come out some idea to destress and amuse ourselves in the midst towards psle.

DS1 makes a good teacher the other day, esp for English. Not sure cos was he trying to escape from work so esp nice to ds2.He complained that ds1 is short attention span.I was like, says who.

        Math

Ok, back to math model vs algebra.

DS1 is pretty good in model drawings.I suggest to him the other day, to pick up algebra, so that, in certain situation, he is able to use it and take it as one way to check the answer. He just refused. He told me all his friends merely memorise algebra to do a question, sometime work and sometime doesnt.I am not sure how true it is.

Of course, beside algebra and model, there are still other way to solve the same math question.Bottom line, which method the kid feel most at ease with.

        Chinese Compo

It takes a lot of practise and practise, just like math.DS1 has the prob tas in ,write too lengthy compo and ended up story line too lop sided. His starting of the compo is always quite good, comes to the end, due to the constraint in time, so ended quite abruptly at times..Good time he can hit around 36.Alot of hard work , for someone that is anti chinese.
He always tells me that English compo has got better chance to score well, which is true.I did see perfect score for english compo, but, not for chinese as yet.

        Cheers,
        Leanne
        Hi Leanne,
That's true...we must have some humour to destress & keep ourselves sane throughout PSLE.

Good to hear your DS prefers to use models to solve maths questions. DD hates drawing models & will only use it as a last resort. I think she's just lazy to draw models la...haha. I guess all methods are good if they can help you solve the questions.

Wow....your DS very impressive....can score 36 for CL compo. I have yet to see DD score that high. DD also the same as your DS.....always write too long and with no time left to finish CL compo, then she'll rush through her conclusion. :skeptical:

          Hi Tinkerbelle,

Yes, somebody had told me to have min. 8 good phrases in the CL comp. so as to stand a chance for getting above 32 marks!

So hopefully they can complete 5 - 10 minutes earlier and have time to scan through and add in the appropriate phrases to pull up the grade!

          Hi Brenda,
Yes, I heard that too but DD said sometimes it's hard to come up with 8 phrases under exam conditions...keke... and finish CL compo in time. I told her to just try her best.

Hopefully, our kids will get topics that they are familiar with during PSLE. That way, sure can complete compo in time and still have time to check. :xedfingers:

          Hi Tinkerbelle,

Yes, hope so and this will be a bonus lah!!!

BTW, dd also mentioned another show \"Spy Kids 4\" and wish to watch before this weekend!

Yes...the power of the media & advertisements! Nowadays, the kids are all very updated and IT savvy. So we parents need to be financially savvy :moneyflies: ...haha

It's good that your DD has no homework.....this is the best time to do all the prelim papers. Keep up the momentum...I'm sure your DD will meet her target of finishing the prelim papers by next Wed/Thurs. Jia you! :rahrah:

                  Hi Brenda,
Yes, DD has already read 'Shimmer'. She really enjoyed it. Reading helps her to destress.

Now she's reading 'City of Glass' under the Mortal Instruments series. 😂 If only she reads more Chinese books...... 😉
