          hi nightrace
there is no special class specifically for pupils who dsaed via sports domain,
they are randomly being placed in diff classes.
as observed from my gal's class, those who were dsaed via sports domain are weaker in their academics.

DHS's teachers do offer 1-1 consultations and they are friendly and approachable (majority of them)..... 😄
so any pupils can approach them for consulatations and
for those who are exceptionally weak, even if u dun approach them,
they will come after u......that what my gal's FT did..... 😉

I think the students should do fine as they had to sit for the GAT prior selection.

Base on DS's experience so far, DHS teachers are friendly and approachable. In fact, although the official flag raising ceremony is at 8a.m. (9a.m for Thursdays), some teachers will ask the students to be in school earlier to do catching-up. Am thankful to these teachers going the extra mile. :salute:

oh yes, :salute: to those teachers who go the extra mile to coach the pupils
outside the normal school hrs.....( or outside their lesson's hrs)

Hi, I guess u' re a sec 2 pupil, since u had registered yrself in 2009,

Which means same yr as my gal...... 😉
Which teacher/ s are u referring to, as u have mentioned that \" some do not even teach\"??

Btw, would be interesting to know what u meant by \"ruin yr life\"
And the \" education syllabus is really bad\" ??

Yes, the sch does have some new teachers joining them in the mid of this yr,
But DHS is not the only school which has new recruits.........
So far, there' s only 1 teacher which is new in my gal's class.

Hi i guess i can answer some of augmum’s question, as I’m a student in DHS for 4 years. for the question abt which teacher, i guess i would rather not comment much about any particular teacher. But u can base on ur daughter’s teacher, maybe give me the names, and I can comment. Yes, I agree that some do not know how to teach, but those are trainee teachers. I do not agree with what junwei had said, as some teachers are very responsible, and I have enjoyed my life in DHS a lot. “education syllabus is bad” I do not think that is the case, as in DHS, we learn things that will be tested for the ‘A’ Levels, and that is why we learn several topics later than other ‘O’ Level schools. For example, we learn the maths topic “Differentiation” in Year 4 whereas other schools learn it in Secondary 3. this does not mean that DHS teaches lesser than other schools, but only suggests that DHS has a different way of nurturing students. Base on my personal experience, I feel that DHS is a gd place to learn and enjoy our teenage life. Although there are quite a number of “trainee” teachers from NIE, I still feel that DHS is a gd place to study in. One teacher I would like to commend is Mr Nigel Koh, a responsible physics teacher that cares for his students in the education aspect and their welfare. I have the honour to be taught by such a good teacher, but maybe Jun Wei have not. I can confidently say that DHS teachers and the education system is beneficial to all students.

Student \"J\" is voicing his own honest feelings and opinions, and we should respect his views :salute: I guess J being such a high PSLE scorer expects something more to stretch him and felt that he's shortchanged :gloomy:

J - Lack of stable experienced teachers is a serious yet common problem in most secondary schools including IPs. So DHS is not alone. Other IPs also have their fair share of high teacher turnover, new or part time teachers who can't teach and the common comment \"teachers don't teach\".... I guess you are not used to the huge jump from a structured primary school, whereby your teachers must have done a great job of teaching/guiding, to IP system whereby you are expected to be independent and source for knowledge yourself. Whether it's DHS, RI or HCI, you are expected to self study. Nobody holds your hand anymore. As a parent I understand your frustrations about lack of enough good mentor-teachers. We feel the pain for our kids too. You can either use free periods or after school hours to grill the teachers until they answer your questions, get off the shelf assessment books and practise relevant topics, borrow notes from seniors etc. Be positive ok :xedfingers: God bless :grphug:
