Just to get you started, maybe how long you've been here, what is your perception of Singapore/Singaporean when you first came and if there's been any difference in your perception over time, what challenges do you encounter in trying (or in not trying) to integrate with the locals or with other foreigners who turned Singaporeans, whether you could even tell who's local and who's not etc - or anything that comes to your mind, which you think would help us see things from your perspective..?

Another parent just told me his family does not go to Orchard Road anymore because it is for foreigners… Sigh

i dont like it when this "your grandparents were from xxxx country" is thrown at me whenever topics on our country, citizens issues are raised.


yes, they were from another country but not me. i just dont feel anything for the country that my grandparents were from and even if i will to do a search on my family tree, i may go "wow, oh," but loyalty or sense of belonging to that country? none at all, i am afraid.

It's not that locals do not want to mix with them, I feel that it's the other way round in fact. Yes, we do talk and smile but u just know that they actually prefer to mix with people from their own countries. It's natural.

I heard that too. Indian expats don't really mix with Singaporean Indians, it seems. There is some clique-ishness. I don't note that amongst the PRC though... Or is it just me?
