DS2 is a minority in his PCF nursery class! Only 3/16 of the kids is Chinese (local or otherwise), a quarter is Malay & the rest is Indian (mainly FT).

When DS1 was a toddler 6yrs ago, we usually saw some local parents & many maids bringing bringing kids to the playground. But the landscape changed esp after the flats reached 5yo & the local moved away. These days locals r out-numbered by FTs at playground anytime. 5-7pm Chinese FT; afterwards Indian FT. Don't see many maids these days too.

Exactly the same scenario here in my neighborhood! The timing of the occupation of the playground is the same! Wahahaha

Skarely we r in the SAME neighbourhood! :)
:skeptical: maybe...kekeke

it is kinda sad that there seems to be some sort of unspoken time allocation
for different groups at the playground. and local and foreigners dont seem to mix.
It's not that locals do not want to mix with them, I feel that it's the other way round in fact. Yes, we do talk and smile but u just know that they actually prefer to mix with people from their own countries. It's natural.

I heard that too. Indian expats don't really mix with Singaporean Indians, it seems. There is some clique-ishness. I don't note that amongst the PRC though... Or is it just me?

I mean they are ok and will chit chat with locals but when their buddies(from same country) comes along, they will naturally start to speak their hometown dialet thus can't really blend well.. No such problem with malaysians though. Ha

So far, I've only spoken to one Indian expat from my block - because she was friendly. The rest hardly look you in the eye.

As for PRCs, they like to chat like there's no other strangers around, so it feels less awkward - just my own experience.

That reminds me - once DH and I were at Food court, 2 PRC men were beside us chatting away. When we sat down beside them, they switched to their own dialects. DH and I started conversing in Teochew too. (You got, I also got).

Figures why our kids' dialects (they are absorbing Teochew n Hokkien) are improving too!

Don't read too much into the time-slots, it's not some unspoken arrangement but just timing preference from their lifestyle & habits. Indian FTs like to feed their kids outdoor too. šŸ˜‰

Haven't experienced HFMD is it? šŸ˜‰

Hello...we r talking abt pple from a country where most of us won't even dare 2 drink its boiled tap water hor. :salute:

OT but 1 of my relatives had to use mineral water carted from S'pore to wipe body, wash face & hair, brush teeth etc as she didn't dare to use the water from her 5-star hotel of an international chain in the major city & flew to S'pore every fortnight (sometimes at her own expense) for a proper shower! :siao:
