According to Straits Times, the fire is likely to be caused by a lantern that a 5 yrs old girl was playing on her bed. Her father had left her alone with a lighted lantern and went to take a bath.
The family of 4 stayed in a room and rented out the other room to 4 tenants. 5 person suffered burns, and from the photo on the papers, the whole flat is totally burned out. -
Really another 'I don't know what to say!'

the owners (wife is PRC) apparently owns 2 shops and rent out 1 room to 4 china women at $200/bed. Questions were raised as to how they qualify for the rental flats and the fact that they sublet to other tenants which was not allowed to.

so they will not be need of any financial assistance? -
lets hope they have plenty of cash cos’ they might need to foot the victims’ hospitalization / medical expenses, damages to the units affected and common area etc.
but poor child, the shock and fear and guilt she must be having now. -
lets hope that poor 5 yrs old girl will not bear the blame for all this
