There are only two rectangles whose dimensions are whole numbers and whose area and perimeter are the same. Can you find both?

Question: Gopal, Jack, Timothy have 60 Stamps altogether.
Timothy has 20 stamps more than Jack. Timothy has twice as many stamps as Gopal.

(a) How many stamps does Gopal have?
(b) How many stamps should Jack give to Timothy so that Timothy would have thrice as many stamps as Jack?

You may use MD.

Draw 2 boxes for Jack.
Draw 2 boxes + 20 for Timothy.
Draw 1 box + 10 for Gopal

5 boxes (5 units )+ 30 ------- 60
1 unit ------ 6

a)Gopal ------- 6+10 ------ 16

b)Timothy and Jack had (32+12) or 44 stamps altogether.

Divide into 4 parts

Timothy ------ 33
Jack -------11

Jack must give 1 (33-32) stamp to Timothy.

P4, either use listing or GC.

The two rectangles are 4*4 and 3*6.

Check

4*4 ----- 2(4+4) -----16

3*6 ------ 2(3+6) -------18

May paid $3.40, Sally paid $3.60

Total paid by May & Sally = $7.00 = 7 apples + 7 oranges
So, 1 apple + 1 orange = $1

Sally paid $3.60 for 4 apples + 3 oranges, so 1 apple = $3.60 - $3.00 = $0.60, 2 apples = $ 1.20

Q2. length = 3 x breadth... with this, I think you can solve it

Hi! Thanks for solving. I am very blurred. Not very good in model. May I know why used two boxes?


Actually, my DD solved the first part. But, all the adult kept asking her why 5 units? Said that she cannot use this matter.

As for the other question, how to use 4 x 4 when the question asked rectangle? It will become a square, right?

For each rectangle, breadth = 1u, length = 3u, perimeter of figure = 2 x (3u+3u+1u) = 14u = 28cm. So, 1u = 2cm

Area of figure = 3u x 4u = 6cm x 8 cm = 48 cm2

For the first question,your DD is right to use 5 units.

As for the second question, a square is a special rectangle.
