Hi All,

Pls help for this 2011 P6 English question from Catholic High School (Pri) SA1 Paper 2 Q20:

Ben tried to ________ a yawn during the lesson as he did not want to be scolded by his teacher.
(1) stifle
(2) sniffle
(3) snuffle
(4) snooze

Answer given is option (2) but I think the correct answer should be option (1).
Pls assist to identify the correct answer.

Note : I think the given address \"[email protected]\" in the poster is an email address and not a web address. The teachers may mistaken an email address for a web address when setting the question. The English HOD told my daughter yesterday that because of the key word \"register\", the applicants need to go online to submit by filling in the form online. She even tell my daughter that you can't register by email and can only request to join.

Think she didn't realise that [email protected] will not lead her to any online form for registration.

So what's your take on this question? Thanks.

Both answers are correct, in my opinion. It is true that the words \"register online\" are found in the poster. However, there is also an email address provided. If the question setter had intended the answer to be \"register online\" with no room for discussion, she should have provided a website url or a link to an online form instead of the email address.

Yes the HOD just called me and said the sch will accept both answers. She also admit that that is an email address and should use a web address instead.

Both answers are correct, in my opinion. It is true that the words \"register online\" are found in the poster. However, there is also an email address provided. If the question setter had intended the answer to be \"register online\" with no room for discussion, she should have provided a website url or a link to an online form instead of the email address.

For punctuation, can anyone share when to use : and ; ?

; is to join another information to the sentence for example: some pupils brought a calculator;others brought along a handphone.(mostly, semicolons are replaced with comma so if the punctuation does not have a comma but has a semicolon, that might be the answer)

: is to tell the reader something that you had mentioned in the first part of the sentence(NOT add on) for example: the keychain that I had broken was very valuable: it was a diamond one.

The first one should be (1)laugh
The second one should be (2)Tom's friend thought he was lying, however he was telling the truth.

We can, however, use the word \"however\" in a sentence when it is not between two independent clauses. <--- like in this sentence.
