To sell or not to sell our pty

But I can understand my parents' viewpoint, which is also shared by many of my friends. Now my three boys share a bedroom. But when they grow older they may need more space. Then, a bigger apartment may cost even more than a landed terrace!
Any possibility of swapping with your parents eventually?
This was what we had done. Our PIL sold their landed terrace to us and they move to a HDB flat after staying many years in landed. Now they find it so much more convenient with all the shops around within walking distance. As for us, it was good for us to sell off our 99-year condos. and put into landed. Much more secure. -
But back to the topic: we currently have an EC which is rented out. If we sell now we'll make a good profit. And it's less than 10 years old. If we wait till the 10 year mark, we may get more, but we may also be caught by an oversupply in the market. Wondering if we should we cash in now, or hold on to it. but even if we cash in now, dunno what alternative investments we can put the money into as the markets are crazy now. I don't want the money to sit in a bank collecting pathetic interest. At least we are collecting good rental returns on the apartment. DH and I are still pondering this issue.
You should hold as it is earning you good rental. What are you going to do with the cash if you sell? Having sold our condo (it is >1500sqft), we intend to get a small investment ppty maybe next year. -

In theory, this is a good option, but if you knew my dad...he hardly ever comes to my place, and when he does, he will not stay longer than 10 minutes because he says my place gives him claustrophobia! It's not as if I live in a Mickey Mouse apartment!MummyThreeStreams:

So, I don't think he will ever live in any type of apartment...in anycase, I have brothers, and my dad is quite the chauvinist...my brothers will probably end up living there for free!
Did you DH's siblings have anything to say about you buying your PIL's place? -

That is what I am afraid of. And the noise from the pool travels upwards and on Sats, cannot rest properly. I was thinking of another alternative which is to get the townhouse kind of condo projects. But not sure if it is worth it. A lot of stairs to climb. But this kind of project much fewer units so not so crowded I presume.
I agree. When we first shifted into our condo, we were keen on having BBQs and gatherings at the function room. Even the tennis court, although we don't really play tennis. After 2 years or so, we hardly use the facilities anymore. With more expats and foreigners moving in, we see more people having BBQs even on weekdays, sun tanning around the pool and the tennis courts are always fully booked. Finally, after 7 years, we are giving up our condo and moving to a terrace. No point paying for facilities that we hardly use. And with landed, we get to own a plot of land.
P/S I don't think that now you can find a FH terrace (or any landed ppty) that is dirt cheap. If you know of any, kindly let me know! -

Look at the size of pool in those town house... We saw one that is like a long kang.... you can only swim in one direction. Another had a pool which is more like a couple of bath tubs. :? -
some townhouses (and whatso other names) have small pools and tiny (or none) playground. some might have a small bbq pit placed right outside or next to a unit. unsure if bbqing at one’s house is allowed.
you might want to get a condo unit away from pool and bbq pit.
i like house shopping and sometimes you never know what you might find. -
Years ago I stayed in a townhouse in the east. The pool is a good size but security became an issue after several units got rented out. Some even convert their place to a ‘student hostel’. Those units with front gates facing the road kept getting their gates damaged and forced open… Heng we decided to move out by then…

I think when you have younger kids, you tend to use the facilities more. When kids are in their teens, they will be too busy to even stay at home, don’t talk about using facilities.
Even for facilities, there are peak periods. Where I am staying, there are many families with young children so the playgrounds are rather highly utilised in the mornings and evenings. As for swimming pools, there are 3 pools, during school holidays and weekends, you will see more people. During exam periods, it is relatively peaceful. -

Can relate to that. Ever seen a condo swimming pool that is more than a pond to me....ccgoh:

hi ccgoh
If budget is not a constraint, there are those older smallish condos (<100units) in the central area which may be less crowded. esp those smallish ones with few facilities. Being smaller units (e.g 2 bedder) , attract less families with kids, also becos of lack of facilities, will also attract less families. Best of all, I believed there are also those where the units are empty most times as owned by foreigner who comes here to stay few time a yr only. T
