I am looking to collate TOP school-developed Chinese Language oral materials. The materials I am interested in are specifically...
(1) Pictures
(2) Picture description model answer scripts
(3) Chinese dialogue model answer scripts
If your child is attending a TOP school and you are interested in getting OTHER top schools' materials, would you kindly PM me? I will arrange to give all successful contributors a full set of the materials free.
I will be requesting for an emailed photo/scan of an excerpt/partial picture from the scripts you propose to contribute. This will allow me to evaluate the material for the standard and quality I am looking for. This is because I have gone through a few schools' materials and realise that not all schools produce the same high quality.
Once I have compiled a set of high quality Chinese oral materials from 5 top schools, I will start a thread in product offerings to retail these materials. I don't want to have to photocopy materials for everyone, free. At the same time, I will post the list of the contributors who will each have a full set of the materials... and you can approach anyone of them as well. If they are willing to give free, then good for you.
I don't know if this initiative will result in anything... but I will keep the community posted of its progress.
I could not collate anything. No one has contributed. I give up. Will try and get materials elsewhere. Thanks for your attention. -

Hi, my DS will be taking his PSLE next year too. I'm the lazy type of parent & is trying very hard to \"psycho\" my DS to study hard on his own. I am no good in Math, English & Science so can't help him much.
I hope to be pressurized by what I see here & be able to \"wakeup\" & help my DS in his PSLE & not be \"三分钟热度\" kind of attitude.
Hi
we are in the same boat... not good in the subjects to assist DS. Now sourcing hard for classes for him to attend, to push him...However not really easy to find one. :slapshead:
Do you let him go for any classes...Any recommendation -
going for tuition may end up like a routine exercise for the kid if he/she does really want to learn…

Currently he is attending English tuition @TLL. Thinking of withdrawing him out if I can find good home tutor that is able to teach him techniques to do exam paper than to drill him. He reads a lot of English story books, now getting him to write down words he don't know & search dict. As for writing, bought him a diary with lock to encourage him to write. He only do composition from school or TLL. I would like him to write more.
For science, I bought a lot of reference books & extra reading materials for him. Math, I am helpless, luckily he is ok with it.
Chinese is another headache. I have tried a few when he was in lower primary up to P4 without any improvement! The funny thing is all the Chinese enrichment class teachers gave me good feedback on his Chinese but when it comes to his school exam result, it's only average. Never get 80% before. So, in the end decided not to send him anymore! :stupid: -
Herbie:

Hi Herbie, I agreed with you too. That's why I have to find ways to motivate him & explain to him why he must study.
Ultimately, I am not the one to enjoy the fruits of his labour. He has a choice, which one he choose, he must be responsible for it as I have already played my part as a parent giving him guidance, encouragement & full support.
Having said that, when he still don't get my meaning & intention, I do feel sad & discourage sometimes. -
My DD1 will be taking her PSLE next year too! Dragon year, went through ballot exercise 6 years ago to get her into a neighbourhood school. Next year, come PSLE! My DD1 didn’t do well in her CA2 recently and I am very worried for her! She is currently having group tuition in a CC for all subjects except Science and taking her Chinese tuition at 天下, yet her results are poor. For Chinese, she is very weak in 理解问答, for English, she is weak in her close passage and comprehension, for science, she is weak in paper 2. I was thinking of getting her 1-1 tuition starting this school holidays. Anyone care to share of any good tutors who are willing to teach in Choa Chu Kang area?
Also, anyone attend Mind Champs, Mind Edge or Adam Khoo workshops and sign up for their kids? Care to share more? -
Superbugs:
I sent my DS to Mind Champs before. Dont find it worth the money. I think parents should go learn how to motivate their kids then it will be more effective. The positive mindset & techniques learned from these centre will last around 3 to 6 mths or earlier depending on individual kid.My DD1 will be taking her PSLE next year too! I went to MindChamps for a marketing talk. They took my son out and made him do some work. The kids came back and demonstrated what they had learnt. I was not impressed. When my son described the techniques the trainers got them to learn a spelling list of 10 words, I was even less impressed.
I do expect my kids to learn spelling at a glance. Where is there the need to use mnemonics with spelling? When you use techniques that dumb down the brain, the brain becomes dumb. I next read up on the research articles written by the Professor they use in the marketing materials… and found that the research was in an are unrelated to normal learning strategies.
Coming out of the marketing session, I was not sure what they were selling… motivation rah-rah… or learning strategies… or intervention for kids with abnormal learning difficulties…? Very confused. -
Chenonceau:
Dear Chenonceau, I totally agreed with you! I regretted wasting my money & my DS's time sending him there. He enjoyed the games played there though. So the feeling I got was \"what an expensive playground!\". He never even use the methods taught there. After the whole course, we were given FOC refresher course but never bother to go. Don't wanna waste our time! My DS also not interested in it anymore!I went to MindChamps for a marketing talk. They took my son out and made him do some work.
