IJJ:
From what i have seen, even the MA and EL papers are one of the toughest, only SC is comparable to other schools.
:yikes: 13-15 is alot!!Funx3:
By the Way ....
My Gal Read the Last Post, and Here's her Comment ....
\" My T say in Neighbourhood Sch they do More papers than in Pei Hwa ....
Something in the Region of 13-15 papers compare to 4-5 papers in Pei Hwa ....But We (means the T) explain more in Detail .... \"
Right from the Horsie's Mouth -hor!

I overheard a enrichment centre teacher commenting that Pei Hwa has one of the toughest CL papers, maybe tat is why they did not ask the kids to do so many of other schools' papers? -
Scary:
I feel that once your child hits P2 onwards, he will have no problem remembering the strokes. becos of the weekly tingxie and moxie which is really good in training up the child well to write CL characters.Janet,
I am trying very hard to coach DS in Chinese now, using Berries notes. The main prob is with writing. Hard to get him to remember all the strokes, plus the fussy mummy here is quite particular about handwriting.
Maybe I should go down to BB to take a look at their notes for the normal Chinese. DS's sunday school teacher also recommended BB to us.
I am not so worried about his Maths. For English, yes, have not been teaching him all the grammar, comprehension, etc. No time and quite hands off, leaving everything to his school. -

Hi, IJJHi, sorry for not replying. After my first post (at my friend's place), I was not able to get internet connection until much later.
Hopping in this morning and read about busy bees...I wanted so much for my eldest to attend busy bees 2 years ago but she was (and still is) resilient about attending (tuition or enrichment) classes. Oh well!
Yes, busy bees lessons are tough but enriching. It is not for the poor. I have the materials from P2 to P6 and even brought quite abit with me here.
Nice to hear from you.
Where did you get those CL materials from? Does the busy bee sell these materials? My ds simply refuse any CL tuition. :slapshead: the Only material we have now is the textbook. -
IJJ, glad to hear u are settling in! Sometimes dh n I do consider if we should migrate or work overseas for a while, so that we can bring up our kids differently.. I m not in favor of the academic first kind of culture here... n would prefer to bring up my kids in a more holistic n rugged style... kids these days are so sheltered n pampered... most do not even carry their own school bags lo!! much less help out at home... It is great that your kids have the oppty to learn abt Nature rite at their doorstep
:salute: so envy!! But we don want to deprive the grandparents of the grandsons (only ones mah) childhood... so postpone loh.. dyh:
I totally feel this too... very often I read abt other kids who do so well that even enrichment is too easy for them.. I feel a bit heart pain that my boy is struggling so hard to pass the asssessments in school.. sigh... every child has different challenges I guess..Speaking of Berries, i remember my DS1 started in K2 and dropped out in mid P1 becos the pace was too fast for him. Since then, switched to private tuition. Yet some of u feel Berries standard is not high enuf...wow.

Sorry, I maybe one of those who contributed to this feeling. I work ds quite hard because I don't wish him to have that kind of despondent feeling I had when I was in pri sch. I was quite a hopeless case, only managed to buck up later in life.

Though he's not outstanding, sometimes when ds does well academically, puffing with a father's pride, I'll share it here. -

Every child is unique in their own way. Being academically strong doesn't mean they will be successfully down the road. What is more important is to mould their character.

Every child also learn at different pace. So continue to coach them at their respective learning pace and stretch them a bit very now and then. It is more important to teach them to challenge themselves rather than compete with others. In today's competitive education environment in Singapore, we need to be wary not to let our child slipped into unhealthy competition. Challenging oneself to new heights is probably the more healthy route. -

Essay writing in P1?? Oh dear, my DD can't even write a short sentence In CL on her own, let alone an essay. :faint:Before creative writing, they must first be comfortable with language and have to build up the vocabulary.
I started my dd on Busy Bee in K1 because we were trying to get her to speak more CL but she complain that she do not know the CL equilvalent to some of the EL words. It was then that I discovered that her CL vocab wasn't there to help her to speak the language.
So my answer is let them learn to appreciate the language as early as possible - as in K1/K2, essay writing usually kicks in from P1.
Agree that first of all, the foundation is a vocab of words/phrases, which is rather lacking for my DD now. So I've to play catching up now.. Btw thanks for sharing

Still have time, yours only K2. Not sure about this yr, but last year P1 SA2 CL paper 1 must write about 40 words - if I'm remember correctly.

Hi scary,
My gal is quite ok with bian4 zi4 ce4 yan4 and tian2 xie3 han4 zi4. Other than that, her CL cloze, comprehension and re-arranging of sentence need some intensive grooming. The list of P1 CL ci2 yu3 to learn for year end test is out
I hope her CL improves...no need to be perfect but hopefully a 'B' at least.
