Yes, school teacher are qualified teacher but some of them dun really teach well and we have to send kids for tuition. I still remember my son's teacher who was trained in maths but was tasked to teach english and science. And this teacher told my son that she doesn't really know Science!!!

        wow lau!

Also the mt teacher just asked the kids to copy thechinese copy which she has written on the board. If the kids write their own compo, they kana scolding. So ended up my ds's compo is really 'good'.

This is the down side of gg to a english potato school they just ignore the importance of mt.

        :frustrated:

During MY time, my classmates were the 'eat potato' type...we hated MT...literally disliked the subject. Fast forward to the present...the very same school is now focusing EQUAL number hours to MT. After the first test in May, all the girls were split into different classes. I appreciate this move because my daughter's CL teacher is able to focus more attention on the weaker students.

            Hi ksme,
Firstly, my apologies for not emailing you the Math answers yet. Hubby has catarat op on Thur and I'm keeping him away from the computer / TV so that he can rest his eyes.
            Janet,
No worries. Hope your husband feeling better now. Must be tough on you to be watching the kids and taking care of him. Take care of yourself too.

Hi, did your kid's school using http://www.lead.com.sg?
Over there, you can login to the\" Oral buddy\" for both Englisg and Chinese. The system has step by step oral practise. Not bad.
Thank you Shurley for the recommendations. Really appreciate your kind gestures. :grphug:

This reminds me of my P5 daughter. She had a great maths teacher, until after the March holidays, when the teacher went on a long leave due to some family problems. The teacher was replaced by an award winning P6 EL teacher. Parents were unhappy with the way she teach, and started to complain to the form teacher, and even to the principal! In the end,75% of the class failed their SA2, with a handful getting only 20+ marks! The funny thing is, some parents whom I met during the parent teacher meeting even suggested writing a petition letter to remove this teacher coz she even gave the students the wrong answers. That is how bad she is at teaching math! This teacher is very good in teaching EL, she even won an award for that. I think she's not even trained to teach math! It is difficult for MOE to track down which teacher is trained in what subj and teaching what in schools. I feel that schools, in terms of manpower, just allocated the teachers where ever they're needed, not taking into consideration whether they're trained in that field or not. Something must be done about this, or the ones suffering would be our own kids 😞

This is the result of \"QUICK FIX\" and happens in many schools.

Hence why I always remind DD that some kids fail NOT because they are not clever and neither is she cleverer just because she (sometimes) achieves better grades. I tell her that it all boils down to whether they were taught well and had sufficient practise.

She needs to be grateful that she has tutors who teach and a mum who is able (to scrape) and pay for them!! :siam:

It is important that we communicate with our kids often.

My son told me last year that he attended the maths remedial class and he & another boy managed to solve the problem given by their teacher and they ended up having to explain to their maths teacher how to solve the problem.

Guess what? His maths teacher collated the qns for them and she herself doesn't know how to solve some of the qns.

                      :stupid:

                        Hi Mummies,

I just cannot understand what the school teachers are for, if they cannot teach the students...the tuition industry is booming as such and parents like us have to scrimp and save every cent...btw, it's not for scoring high grades but to pass exams.
