      Hi smartmummy,

I may not be the right person for tamil compos.
My son is in P1 and i dont have an idea how the Tamil compos are in upper primary. And do not know any tutors.
I personally have not learnt tamil as a part of my schooling. Though i can converse fluently, my reading is very poor - say lower primary level.
And i cant write. When I read to him now , I struggle. At times he corrects me.
Added to that we converse little in Tamil at home. P1 is ok but surely I know I have an uphill battle for upper primary. :nailbite:
      I will definitely need tutors.

How is your son's EL compos?

Sorry cant be of much help , Just some advice I can give you based on my experience with DD ( she did not take Tamil)

Personally i see it as 2 parts -
      1. ability to have the ideas and thoughts, the flow, the imagination, the practicality, the art of making a reader get involved with the story,
      2. having the language skills to support the above.

The first one is common to EL and MT. If he is good in this then its half the problem solved.
Its difficult to train this unless the child is motivated to do so.
That means some how we have to get the child write things he likes. Help him build up from there.
Writing compo can be boring and and they have to be in a right mood. Try incentives.
So atleast make the topic be about what they like, or atleast something they can easily relate to.
Then move on to the typical school compos.

The second part is about language strength.
As far as my limited knowledge goes, if we pronounce correctly, the spelling for a phonetic language like tamil will be easy.
Perhaps he needs to focus on that. And get him to read Tamil Murasu too, I am not sure if there are onine sites but you can explore.
And if you find a good sites please drop in a post at the KSP Tamil Thread please ๐Ÿ˜„
Not sure if there are good model compos- but he can read those too.
In fact even with a good tutor these steps are essential, 1-2 hours with tutor is not going to produce results if there is no follow on for any subject.

      My 2 cents ...
I will try to get info from my friend living in the north about Tamil Tutors.

        Hi Sun_2010!

Thanks a lot for ur useful tips.

He never speak in Tamil at home.So I donโ€™t know how he pronounce. Now from his compo, I saw some words wrong spelled,I realised he pronounced wrongly. His T said he actively participated at class discussion. I think,he can do in part 1,he weak in Tamil language.Teacher mark for a compo at class,8/10 for concept,5/10 for language.
I already post some website address at Tamil thread. But the thread is not active.
