MPM Maths - Discussion

Just to share.
My boy has been with MPM since he was in K1, now he is in P2. I can see that his Math Foundation is quite strong although some of you mentioned that MPM does not give a good math foundation. He enjoys Math alot and is scoring consistently well in school. He enjoys doing the MPM books and told me that its his favourite subject.
My take is that MPM allowed him to think creatively and "out of the box" so he is able to understand the questions easily. The MPM worksheets are not so straightforward and many times, he has to think before he solves it.
Then again, I guess the results vary from child to child and very much depends on the teacher in the school too. My boy is attending MPM at Tampines CPF building. -
When I post that MPM does not strengthen maths foundation, I meant that if a child is weak in Maths, the progam will not help. It is more towards the next level of thinking maths. I feel that a child’s basics must be strong b4 he/she can benefit from it. My DD1 is in the prog and that’s how I feel looking at the worksheets.

Oh, now I understand better on what you meant. MPM is the only Math enrichment that my boy is exposed to and it worked for him cos he is someone who is very used to independent learning from young.
Yes, I do agree if a child is weak in Math, tuition would be better. My niece tried MPM and it didnt work for her so now she is having Math tuition at home instead. -

I don't see alot of older kids in MPM, guessing it may not work for older kids.... -
My niece is in P4. I think she was over-aged for MPM but the mom insisted she try it out.

jmm - thanks for your reply.
I agree - she maybe over-aged for MPM. -

I am told by one of the teachers that while MPM teaches the MOE syllabus, the format of the question is different, so may not be as beneficial for the upper primary school children, and definitely not for PSLE.

Having gone through the entire P1 syllabus this year, I think there are areas that MPM does very well. If the concepts can be well absorbed by the kids, that will help lay the foundation. However, each workbook only has 16 pages, so for students who need more practice, MPM may seem lacking in this area. For students who do not want to do too much, it is actually great!

hmmmm…MPM is from P1 to P6. If remembered correctly, a child needs to join by P3, the centre bshould not accept a P4 kid.

Does anyone has any experience with Teacher Jane from the Bukit Panjang outlet. either for MPM or Jelic class?
