actually this tuition thingy may not go away even when the kids enter sec sch. Which is why even the sec tuition service is booming.

If you visit crown plaza u will be shocked to see there are so many tuition centre for sec/jc students.

:offtopic: and there are some classes that are exclusively for some JCs only.

Yes, with 4 subjects, it's already so tough :slapshead: can you imagine 9 or 10 subjects ? Fine, not all are academic but there is history, geography, literature which are killer subjects. What in the world is MOE doing ? Is their objective to kill the parents ?

What I imply by saying this will affect how I choose secondary schools is that - am gonna select by my own list of criteria and at the top of the list is... the teaching culture.

Yes, lots of sussing out to do. And lots of other parents of current batch of students to talk to. How are the teachers? Do you depend more on tutors? Do they help?

My nephew is doing well in an above-average neighbourhood secondary school and my sis does not have a single tutor for him. That's the kind of school I want for my DD.

Have also spoken to an ex-student of a top secondary school (need to talk to more). She clearly stated that her teachers did not teach much. The school is off my personal \"schools to aspire for list\". Instead it's in my \"banned\" list. :siam:

This is a good reminder to me.

                Hallo stressed-out parents,

I hate this time of year... my busiest time at work coincides with DD's exams.

Worst still, had mass resignations at work so the stress has reached new levels.

I told DD that she has to step up and be independent.

Can't wait for the year to be over coz am feeling so burnt out... :imdrowning:

Take care Peony. Hope things at work will work out soon.

Yes, we are feeling the stress from the coming exams too. Console myself that it will be over very soon. Time really flies nowadays when we are busy.

Good luck to all P5 kiddos and their parents. Jia You!

Grrrhhh.....and I was thinking maybe I take away some of the tuition when in sec sch. Like that very costly leh. :nailbite:

Have any of you ever calculate how much you are spending on tuition per month per child? The other day, I saw someone mentioned in the Straits Times forum $2K - $3K....I was like :yikes: :faint:

Hi Peony, I totally agreed with what you have said regarding the 'teaching culture'. I also don't want to send my dd for tuition/enrichment when she entered sec sch. Will really appreciate if you have come out a list of schools that you like and share with me. Can't stand how of these teachers' style of teaching and mindset. Really hope to send to a school where the teacher cares for the students and can teach.

I'm feeling stressed and going to be burnt out. Have been going thru past year papers for 2009 Eng past year papers...printing out sections like synthesis, vocab cloze, compre cloze, vocab to help him improve. It's scary to be burnt out :nailbite:

I hope my son doesn't require tuition when he goes to Sec 1...I dare not even calculate the amount of money he is racking up every month for his tuition...ESP next year.
