How to start driving again?

Thanks for all the feedback and encouragement! Indeed, practise will make it more confident.. as some also mentioned, it's usually the parking!!


The 1st hurdle is actually just o/s my house doing a narrow U turn! I wish it should be just a straight road..

hmm.. probably needs another round of refresher 1st before asking dh to sit with me..

I went for 3 lessons , 6 hours of Refresher Course-each time about 2 hours....
The Private Instructor let me drove his Car up the Multi-storey carpark HDB , IMM , went to Changi Airport, Resort World...I was lucky I even got to practise driving during heavy downpour....
I just tell him where I want to drive.....

If you go back to the Official driving School, I think you have to take up minimum number of lessons....and specific routes....quite inflexible...

The first few times after without the Instructor....was quite scary... :nailbite: there was 1 time....I drove out from my Carpark without even releasing the HandBrake....I was wondering what was the screeching sound on the road.... :faint:

It helps that he isn't bother much by dents etc, so I'm not stressed.

Lucky you! When I just started driving, he would inspect the car (brand new car mah) every night for scratches or dents without fail. :skeptical:

The worst is having him in the passenger seat. He would comment on everything, from the way i switched lane to the way i parked the car. :mad: In the end, told him either he drives or naps. That's the arrangement till now.

Lucky 4 him too! Else, he would hv to drive us ard more! :evil:

I guess DH has \"evolved\" over time & changes his priorities w the arrival of kids. He used to care abt cars v much but these days, he just treat it as a mode of transport to serve us, for our convenience.
Shldn't that b the case, rather than slaving over the car & treating it more precious than the loved ones?

Hehe. Very good already, at least could drive out. I don't even remember where is the switch for headlights..... :scratchhead:

He blames it on my poor driving skills and carelessness... that the scratches and dents may affect resale value... Men :roll:

I think a lot of us are too hung up about a little scratch or dent on our cars. That makes driving all the more stressful. It is even worse if you are driving your spouse's car.


I have handled different types of cars, from coupes to SUV to MPV to off roaders but I hate driving DH's car and I hate driving my car with him as a passenger. The moment I start the engine of my car, he will start making comments like engine doesn't sound right, your tyres very noisy, blah blah blah.

:rotflmao: Oh man, this just sounds so familiar. I'd always go :skeptical: \"Er.. you wanna take over?\" But then again, have to admit he's a much more careful driver than me!

:rotflmao: that's what my dad used to do when I first started driving!

It is always difficult to bring oneself back to the drivers' seat after each accident. Fortunately, mine hasn't been serious ones (touch-wood), and some not my fault, but enough to cause some phobia. It's like your heart would beat faster when you reach the place where the accident happened, or when the vehicle next to you moves too near. It takes time for the fear to go away, and the only way to conquer that fear is not to stop driving.
