      twilight:
According to my senior, many RGS girls transfer to ACSI. Not sure how many though, but she said they're one of the top girls feeder school, along with MGS. Her friend from RGS thinks IB system is superior to A levels. In terms of what, I'm not sure. But then again, the only way for a girl to enter ACSI is in year 5.

Ok, I am biased, I think so too.

Aiyoh, δ½ θ€ƒε€’ζˆ‘δΊ†γ€‚ By saying better it does not equate to getting a better job or entering a better university. Your options are open with IB, than again, not all are suited to take the IB esp if you are not a word person, as in you have to write well.

                Snow Crystal:

SingaporeGirl - can you please share with us what are the major pull and push factors for thinking of transferring from your current IP to ACSI IB? Are you a more Science or Humanities student? Are you thinking of going overseas and feels that ACSI IB is more broad based and recognized? Sorry for aunty's so many questions πŸ˜“ because I am curious about the thought process of a girl who wants to transfer from IP to ACSI IB. I admire your ability to seek alternatives and give some serious thoughts about your future at this age :rahrah: most ppl just go with the flow. Thanks. Btw your nick is cool :boogie:
                Hello Aunty! πŸ™‚

Haha no worries! I think it's important to constantly question and be sure of our purpose and goals too! So I'll just take this opportunity to remind ask myself why too. πŸ™‚

I guess the major push factor would be that the IB allows students to take on a larger range of subjects and you have a broader and more diverse education. (That was actually one of the main reasons that pushed me to going into IP) Personally, I feel that both the arts and the sciences shape the way you think and see problems very differently and I feel that they are both equally important? Yep, that's why I would say that I'm neither an extremely art or science student although I generally do better in my humanities subjects.

I feel that the A-levels system is based a lot on the content knowledge so in that sense it feels rather similar to PSLE and the O'levels whereby if you practice and drill hard enough you will do fine? But I don't think that it's good to study this way because I don't think that you're actually learning? It feels like you're just spending two years doing a dozen of ten-year series' so as to tackle a 2-hour paper. I don't like that because our world is constantly changing and apparently, half the things you learn now won't even be valid in 3 years time. But the IB focuses more on teaching you skills through like the various projects and stuff so in that way it feels like a better form of education?

Hm. Well I do hope that I would be able to go overseas to study but I won't say that that is a reason why I want to do the IB because I do have seniors who did the A-levels and got scholarships to the Ivy League and top UK universities too. πŸ™‚ Yeah. I mean I know that the A-levels isn't bad or anything it's just that I feel that I'm more suited for the curriculum available in the IB although the competition there seems crazy tough. 😞

                Hope I answered your question!

I am super impressed by your matured train of thoughts at this age πŸ˜„ I hope some parents with kids in ACSI can drop by and advise you on that system. I gather so far that those who want to transfer at year 5 are more humanities than Science students thus my questions. I know an acquaintance's DD transferred from an IP to ACSI in year 5 to do humanities with eventual view to go overseas for degree. I heard that she's very happy in ACSI. She's quite westernized and not so into Chinese so her previous IP was not quite suitable. Plus she has set her mind on certain humanities direction thus the move. I am in awe :salute: that you can see A levels with such a wide perspective - that it is plainly another PSLE or O levels with mugging for 2 years and doing loads of ten year series. And you want a broader education.

I asked about overseas studies because I think many ACSI students go overseas and IB is well received in overseas unis.

SingaporeGirl - Aunty wishes you all the best! :rahrah:

Can those KSPs with kids in ACSI and especially with different kids in ACSI and other IPs give some valuable advice to SingaporeGirl, a matured youth who is giving such serious thoughts to her future? :please:

Thanks so much for your encouragement πŸ™‚ I feel really flattered. Haha I do hope that I'll be able to convince my mummy to trust me and let me give ACS a shot too... πŸ™‚

                      Hi SingaporeGirl,

Great to see that you are considering IB. I’m currently at the tail end of my IB experience in ACSI and I certainly feel that IB has been immensely rewarding.

I’d like to caution that IB is no walk in the park though. The workload is quite demanding and you’ll sometimes find that your peers in the A level track would have more free time as compared to you, especially during Year 5.

For those who enjoy projects though, IB is certainly a fantastic option. A large portion of our grade (up to 50% for certain subjects) is based off a diverse range of projects ranging from essays to oral commentaries to lab reports. One component of IB which I particularly enjoyed was the Extended Essay, which basically allows you to explore any topic of your choice (within reasonable boundaries of course).

If you have any queries about ACSI or IB, please feel free to ask! I’d be glad to help.

                        Hi pirozhki,

One question which i have asked in this forum before but got different answers.

Does ACSI offer Chinese language from scratch? My dd is exempted from MT till uni but if she really gets into ACSI, she’ll have to do another language (hopefully Chinese). Can she do Chinese? but from scratch? Thanks in advance.
