i am not so good in chinese ,but somehow i feel there is somethng missing here我有蓝猪 ?
      need 数量单位词?

it is applaudable that u are teaching your kid the language from young, but i think it is even better if you could try teach them to say in full sentence ,it really helps when they need to 造句 in school.
just like you won't want them to start saying \"me Tarzan , you Jane \"

      😄 😄

      Thanks Indigoblue,

The point of the game is to make something out of the cards he has on hand. The cards are placed face down (hypy is visible but he can't read that yet). He doesn't see which card he will get before he tries. Only if he succeed in reading, then he can claim as his own.

I understand and concur on the part where I should introduce proper sentence to him. But I rather he recognise the words and get fun out of it, than worry about sentence construction. I don't want to crimp his style by objecting at every turn what he makes of it. We'll laugh if his sentence is ludicrous.

That said, the example is utterly a figment of my imagination, I couldn't think of what to type. 😛

Just for comic relief, just make sure you don't have the words that make up \"大懒觉”。True story, my aunt once read a chinese assessment book which said \"他睡了一个大懒觉\" and my grandma was horrified and told her to stop saying that! hahahaha... guess we can't assume that all chinese writers know hokkien...

Congrats Brenda! Your hardwork pays well.

Both you and Tamarind are my role model in teaching chinese at home.

I hope in due time i can achieve the same result as Tamarind and Brenda in getting my children to love to read Chinese books. Nowadays, when i passed english and chinese story books to them, they rather pick up english story books first. I will perservere.

        Hi laughingcat,

Thank you and I'm sure your perservere will also pay off.

Think important is find the book that can spark their interest and they will be willing to carry on with the CL books.

The following are some of the interesting CL comics books that we just borrow on Sunday:

          Brenda,

You managed to get so many of them at 1 go? May I check with you which library you go to? Are these are the children’s section?

          Thanks.

Hi, Brenda10, thanks for sharing. The books look interesting.

Just curious, does your dd read more Chinese comic books or Chinese novels/ short stories?

                  Brenda,

Thanks for sharing ! My kids are crazy about the Survival series, which includes the Siberia book in your photos, but too bad I bought the books in English. I didn’t know that they will love these comics so much, otherwise I would have bought the Chinese version for them.

This series includes both comics, as well as pages of words explaining scientific notes related to the story. Very educational and very fun to read at the same time.

I will check out the other comic books in your photos.

I bought the entire set of Tintin comics in Chinese and my girl likes to read them.

I have read in the 好妈妈胜过好老师, as well as the The read aloud handbook by Jim Trelease, that so long as our kids are reading both comic books and novels, it is absolutely fine.

Been trying to coach DD on my own using Ji Chu Han Zi and SWKD. Glad to say that she's responding well and is learning new words. So I'm happy that there's a DIY way to help DD with word recognition, thanks to the tips from parents here! 🙂

I'm wondering though if I shld still send her for enrichment classes to help with the oral component. Cos she's not very willing to speak Mandarin to me and hubby. Only speaks her broken Mandarin to her grandfather, haha...

                    Any thoughts, everyone?
                    Hi Tamarind,

I understand your children don't really speak Mandarin at home. How did they manage to pick up speaking Mandarin fluently? I read from previous posts that they do well in their oral tests. Is it through your correction of their intonation while reading aloud?

My DD speaks Mandarin with an ang moh accent, though she's showing some slight improvement recently. Just wondering whether greater exposure through an enrichment class would be better, or if the reading aloud alone would do the trick of correcting her intonation?

                    Any thoughts? 🙂
                    Thanks much!

                      Hi Tamarind,

                      You're welcome.

My dd also like those Survival Comics and I bought the EL version and borrow the CL version since I can find it from the NLB.

True that Comics does help as it provide DD some simple knowledge to 四大名著,孙子攻略 and she get to know those historical 人物like 伍子胥,吴王,楚平王 etc
