optimistforum, yes that is the same book I have also. It is a very good book, but the standards are actually very high and they have a good variety of questions. So besides asking my dd to do, I also use it as a guide to the kind of things that she is expected to understand, and it clearly shows what she doesn’t understand.

I was worried my DD1 cannot cope with primary school transition. so I thought I should give her a headstart.. esp in maths since I find she is weak in it.. So I have been going through the P1 assessments books for quite a while, as I dont know if I will have time to do the assessments once she is in P1.. as I heard there may be homework almost everyday.. haizz...

As for multiplication... I started with 1 timestable on Jan, 2x on Feb and so on.. so she has learnt her 9x for this mth.

During mid year she learnt the 3 groups of 4 concept in her enrichment class, and I feel she was able to understand the whole concept better.

I believe good foundation is very impt... too :))

Hi! I believe you have started and lay a very good foundation for your DD! :celebrate:

Do not worry too much about her being unable to cope in the P1 transition as I believe most children will get into the gear pretty fast!

Ok, wondering have you read the following? This is the MOE guidelines on Primary School Maths syllabus and it does spell out what are the topics being taught 😄
        http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/syllabuses/sciences/files/maths-primary-2007.pdf

Thank you soo much for the encouragement and the link.. it is very helpful 😄

now I think i have my DD pretty much covered..

will look out for the step by step math book.. since got good reviews!! 😉

            Thank you SAHM_TAN

I could not resist coming on, let's be honest I am an addict to this site - and there is no other better activity to be addicted to. 😉

I will try the subtraction with DS2, he is ok with other aspects of maths, adding, tables, bigger, smaller, longer, shorter - but struggles with subtraction. We will get there. :rahrah:

              Hello! 😉

I do not know whether will I be breaking the rules if I post the following in this thread? 😉 There's no separate thread for P1 Maths Assessment Books so I just have to post it here lioa 😂 :imsorry: - have to pardon me as my home scanner is not working well so some of the images might be a bit distorted 😂

I have checked the Popular On-line and the EPH website but was unable to find this book. Saw it at one of the neighbourhood bookstore and ran through it. Was glad to find that it addressed what I was looking for - \"Heuristics\" :please: Was a bit hesistant whether to get it as the year of publication was 2007! But can't get my hands off it!

I have another P3 book by the same author \"Yee Fook Shiong\" and being using it to revise with my DD1. https://www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_detail.jsp?vca001=112&vpd001=69817

I’ve been wondering what this heuristics things is all about and was worried it was something complicated that I had missed out on. Having seen those screen shots I realised that it’s just common sense & logic really!

And you know what I was going through the exact topic yesterday with my DD, about the position and how many people are there in total, And the only way I can think of was to teach her was to draw the stick man… hehehe… and she was able to understand… so next time i will tell her to draw boxes instead of stick man… hehehe…

drawings of stickman or even circles are acceptable. No marks will be lost. 🆒
